The Digital You Matters: Identity in the Internet Age | Visual.ly

The Digital You Matters: Identity in the Internet Age | Visual.ly | Digital Media Research | Scoop.it
"You’ve heard it before: we live in a digital age. It’s not news that today nearly every one of us has a digital identity formed by the data that exists about us online." Comment: I have scooped about this before, between August 31 and September 16 of this year (with links to blog posts of mine). A rich and accessible online (learner) identity is conducive to online learning (via the recommenders that use those data), but at the same poses a significant privacy threat. This is especially true because there are so many companies out there that are only interested in our online identities as a means to make money through advertising. The present scoop does not add a much deeper insight into this dilemma, but it does a good job of sketching the extent of our online identies. Now you can assess your opportunities and risks while at least being better informed. (peter sloep, @pbsloep)

Equity crowdfunding discussed at Global Expo | Bankless Times | Digital Media Research | Scoop.it
Imagine attending a dinner party a year from now where a dozen people are all talking about what businesses they’ve invested in. That’s a scene some predict for the near future, as equity crowdfunding moves into the spotlight in 2014. “I would like to see a world where you should feel uncomfortable if you do not invest in crowdfunding,” Howard Leonhardt, CEO of the California Stock Exchange, said as a panelist at theCrowdfund Global Expo. http://www.crowdfundinsider.com/2014/01/31128-title-ii-title-iii-take-center-stage-experts-discuss-equity-crowdfunding-crowdfund-global-expo/

Value, Cognitive Authority, and Digital Badges

Value, Cognitive Authority, and Digital Badges | Digital Media Research | Scoop.it
The major question that I have had since I’ve started exploring new hosting opportunities for our ORMS badges involves aspects of value, credibility, and “sincerity” of design involved in our badging infrastructure. Put simply, I believe that people will make judgments about the believability, credibility, and relevance of the digital badges based on elements of the metadata, the images used, and where the badge is hosted.
