The Disconnect Between Content Marketing and Content Selling

The Disconnect Between Content Marketing and Content Selling | Digital Footprint | Scoop.it

Content builds awareness and accelerates customers though the sales funnel. But Content Marketing and Content Selling differ in approach....

In a recent piece on the Marketo blog, Jeff Ogden, Creator and Host of Marketing Made Simple TV, collaborated with marketing guru Jay Baer to write “Stop Selling, Start Helping: 5 Tips for Creating Magnetic Content.” The blog offers a number of tips on making content attractive to buyers, but also addresses the concept that content must be precisely targeted to win sales.

Ogden notes that you first must understand your prospect. Then writes, “Now that you really understand what buyers need, you can focus on mapping your content to really resonate with those needs. A sales lead is a prospect who meets specific, predetermined criteria for becoming a customer. They desire specific information about their circumstances…” This is an important part of content selling, and marked extension of Content Marketing....

How People Read Online [Infographic]

How People Read Online [Infographic] | Digital Footprint | Scoop.it
Now that reading online involves a bevy of social actions, from sharing to commenting across a plethora of devices, how many of your site’s readers will make it past the first paragraph?.

Recently Slate's technology columnist investigated this issue further in his article You Won’t Finish This Article. Using data from Chartbeat, he found that most readers don’t engage with the article, and if they do, they are inclined to do so before scrolling half-way down the page.

To help us better understand the risks and opportunities about online readership, and to help you, dear reader, get to bottom of this article faster, we present you with an infographic that summarizes it all.

Regardless of being a brand or persona, our goal is to be seen as a source.

Something people can rely on with their expectations for our niche content. The following inbound marketing blogs are my personal favorites

, for two main reasons:

1. They consistently create top internet marketing content

2. As a blog, they are live examples of how to achieve inbound marketing success.

It’s a bit circular, how the greatest inbound marketing blogs are, in themselves, the best examples of inbound marketing. At any rate, here they are:

Guillaume, I got more benefit from your comments on this SlideShare presentation than from the presentation itself. Marketo has done a nice job of pulling together content that is eminently shareable, but without a voice over or detailed presentation notes, it's kind of like driving through a beautiful city in the back of a car, and never being able to get out and experience its true personality. IMHO. I'm sure the Virtual Event was far more enlightening.

Increasing productivity means you get more with what you have. That's why I love improving efficiency so much. It does the same thing!

This article outlines 6 steps business owners and managers can take to do just that: do more with what thay have. And, I'm a bit torn...is #3 or #6 my favorite? They are both highly impacting, and I believe they are often overlooked.

My challenge to you: pick just one step to implement and watch how it impacts your business...in a great way!

that shouldn't even be an option of theirs. Of course your information will be shared on the inernet but it's a person's right to show it or not, especially if it's being used without permission to advertise.

great interview

Nick Roberts's curator insight, October 17, 2013 11:48 PM

Stanford GSB has awarded the Tesla Motor CEO with Entrepreneurial Company of the Year. Elon Musk is a man of many achievements, he founded PayPal, he is the inspiration for Tony Stark and started zip 2.  Most likely his greaest achievemet should be Tesla Motor. His ultimate goal was to drasically effect the future of humanity, "...like creating a new nervous system." What he is referring to is the internet. He beleives that computers are a world wide nervous system communicating different thoughts throughout it. He looks at a computer in terms of a person. It has a brain, a memory, a body and a nervous system. He even briefely talks about genetic engineering.
