This is the school where I went for most of my childhood and teen years. I wish we had this way back when! It's good to see initiatives aimed at girls to do more STEM activities, and proud that my alma mater is leading the way. I know I would've love to learn code back then!

Danielle M. Villegas's curator insight, October 8, 2014 10:09 AM

My friend Nick Kellet, who is one of the co-founders at List.ly, has posted this fantastic article that compares at social media and media platforms. This article is truly a deep-dive look, so it'll take some time to get through, but definitely worth the read. Digital media, as he points out at the beginning of his article, is always changing and shifting, and I think he does a really great job in showing how it's currently shifting and how we need to change to adapt to the current mindset. If you work or are interested in social media-related work, this is a must-read.

Educational Radiotelevision Greece's curator insight, April 26, 2013 2:51 PM

Education technology has changed what’s possible in learning.

No longer are students confined to desks, textbooks, or even classrooms or schools. Today, a student has at least the potential for access to apps, an incredible catalogue of videos, podcasts, learning simulations, digital communities and so much more, all through a simple internet connection.

The following 7 educational technology platforms are good representatives of some of these changes, and the chart above is a snapshot of how exactly they’ve changed what’s possible in learning, from new sources of data to the potential for a global audience.

1. MOOCs

2. Skillbuilder websites

3. Blackboard Learn

4. Skype in the Classroom

5. Khan Academy

6. YouTube Edu

7. iTunesU

10 Highly Selective Colleges Form Consortium to Offer Online Courses | digital communities | Scoop.it

A group of 10 highly selective colleges has formed a consortium to offer online courses that students enrolled at any of the campuses can take for credit.

The group, which includes Wake Forest and Brandeis Universities, will offer semester-long online courses using software from 2U, an education-technology company formerly called 2tor. Students already attending the institutions can earn credit from any college in the group, while students who are not enrolled at those colleges can apply to take the courses.
