A different perspective on scalability. Simple argument that it if we can speed up code 100 times this will require 100 X fewer servers. We have come to value scaling infrastructure over optimising code and think that programmer time is more expensive than hardware. well if you are spending 300k per month on servers and you can optimise 100 x then you only need 3k per month on servers.
