MIT: 10 Breakthrough Technologies 2013 you should know about

MIT: 10 Breakthrough Technologies 2013 you should know about | digital business IT marketing | Scoop.it

MIT's definition of a breakthrough is simple: an advance that gives people powerful new ways to use technology. It could be an intuitive design that provides a useful interface (e.g., “Smart Watches”) or experimental devices that could allow people who have suffered brain damage to once again form memories (“Memory Implants”). Some could be key to sustainable economic growth (“Additive Manufacturing” and “Supergrids”), while others could change how we communicate (“Temporary Social Media”) or think about the unborn (“Prenatal DNA Sequencing”). Some are brilliant feats of engineering (“Baxter”), whereas others stem from attempts to rethink longstanding problems in their fields (“Deep Learning” and “Ultra-Efficient Solar Power”). As a whole, this annual list not only tells you which technologies you need to know about, but also celebrates the creativity that produced them.

How Colors Affect Conversion Rate [infographic]

How Colors Affect Conversion Rate [infographic] | digital business IT marketing | Scoop.it

...Did you know that color accounts for 85% of the reason why you purchased a specific product? Or that full-colored ads in magazines are recognized 26% more than black and white ads?

The psychological elements go even deeper when you look at the specific meanings of colors. For example, if you use the color blue on your products, it will give your customers a calming effect…while black, on the other hand, gives your customers a sense of exclusivity.

So, the real question that comes to mind is: how should you use color within your marketing?...

Branding Strategy Insider | 7 Strategies To Create New Business Categories

Branding Strategy Insider | 7 Strategies To Create New Business Categories | digital business IT marketing | Scoop.it

I have written about creating “category-of-one” brands before. Most brands spend their time trying to increase their share of existing markets. They pursue many different tactics to do so, from innovating new product functions and features and offering price promotions (which erodes brand equity) to improving product quality and creating value-added services. Some even create highly entertaining ads hoping this will help them break through the category messaging clutter. The problem with these approaches is that they are incremental and most of them can be very easily matched by the competition.

Brand managers know how difficult it can be to create brand differentiation within an existing category. In mature markets, every market position has already been taken. True breakthroughs come only from creating entirely new categories, highly compelling new categories.

So, how does a brand manager achieve this?

Quelques inspirations https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3q_QlLjZlIIcG5QQTl3ZTBobnM/edit?usp=sharing

#what a great simple headline and eye catchig graphic. Does what it says on the tin.

Nick Jennings's curator insight, September 8, 3:50 AM

This article provides insight as to how businesses can differentiate themselves from the competition. The use of breaking customer compromises can separate a company from its competition with a distinct and unique stand point. The article lists Amazon as an example which I feel is accurate as they were able to change the face of customer purchasing with just the click of a finger. By recreating a category it can develop customer retention and brand differentiation. Cirque Du Soleil is a fantastic example as they have positioned themselves as a circus unlike any other creating a new and exciting experience for the consumer. These are just some examples of how marketers can create differentiation from other brands and build both band recognition and recall.

Never uderestimate Instagram but how will you use it to to convert. interesting trnds and changes f0r 2014. It;s certainly true that there are no lamost as many middle-aged people on FAcebook as there are teens. Some of that is success, how much do teens buy short term?

But the numbers do not revela who buys ora market/country by country analysis, thats when the free lunch stops with Global Web Index. But worthy of a ponder as you focus on where to put your social signals in 2014...

How do you market your business? Do you produce engaging content as part of your strategy? According to a recent study, 78% of businesses in 2013 (that responded) do engage in content marketing.

If you have a blog or produce content on social networks, videos or white papers then you are engaging in content marketing!

So what is the future of content marketing? How will things change?... Take a look.…

Via Jeff Domansky
Intriguing Networks's insight:

Thanks for this, most interested in the predictions about real people feature inncreasigly in content, it reads somewhat ironically doesn'tit with all the social interactions everyone is engaged upon?

I am pondering whether its more about authenticity that underpins the real people and events and havig something that actually connects emotionally as well as logically as more than a conversion click?

In the UK there has been a real swing in mainstream xmas advertising led by an upmarket Department store chain called John Lewis, the others have tried to copy but they have not done it as well. The Ad hardly mentions the brand or the product and the feature is a costly animation. Interesting to see such emotive content and everyone is talking about it around the Xmas campaigns. Guess its a bit resonant with the Apple Think Different Ads. So how Companies trnslate that into streams of online content that fit the overall Brand Strategy is going to be interesting...

Theres a post about Facebook's Compassion and Content Strategy Teams and how they are researching and refining dealing with annoying content, may seem off-track but in terms of the future of Content Marketing understanding how not to endup with users tuning out may well be key? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/16/facebook-compassion_n_4441716.html strikes me that in business content we will face similar and significant challenges in the battle against the white noise even more so now Facebook say theya re carefully rolling out auto play video ads the bane of most users and the price they pay for a free platform...

Food for thought thanks again!

10 Top Tips to Grow Your Email List

10 Top Tips to Grow Your Email List | digital business IT marketing | Scoop.it

Many bloggers have realised that they have forgotten something. The art and science of building an email list. Here are 10 top tips to grow your email list

Intriguing Networks's insight:

Thanks for this, always a good and carefully considered post when Jeff Bullas is involved well worth sharing.

On the basis that the numbers do not lie with the preoccupation with Social Nets we can all take our eyes off the importance of a good list and how many people despite apparnet protestation like to read a good digest and newsletter or conversion mail.

An art form as well as a science,  as said above - Now accessible to all with the likes of Mailchimp providing such excellent and relatively easy ways to test and develop for any organisation large or small.

Don't forget the crafting of the forms too, there are whole books on form design but I think I noticed a good post on forms too so will pass that along in due course.
