The Psychology and Future of Blogging

The Psychology and Future of Blogging | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

Blogging is getting more and more popular and this trend is expected to continue in the years ahead, with expected regular blog readers of over 60% of the Internet population in the U.S. by 2014. Experts predict in time blogs will become indistinguishable from the other channels which means they’ll be accepted as an inseparable part of the online media. But, have you stopped to think why do people actually blog; what makes them want to blog; is there some psychological basis behind blogging? All bloggers have a purpose for their voice to be heard, but it is in their psychology why they’ve chosen that purpose, or that particular voice. Here’s some blogging on the brain…

Social Media Doesn’t Have to Be This Way

Six years ago, I began a love affair with the potential that social media could offer.

While I’d been online for much longer, meandering from blogging to forums and gaming, it was only when I started really getting into what MySpace, Facebook and Twitter offered that I saw something bigger than just talking about random stuff.

I saw the opportunity for everyone to truly have a platform to share from. I saw the opportunity for business to both understand and connect better with their audience.

I don't know about you, but I think there is something seriously wrong with the way a lot of us do social media.

Between the fakers, self-promoters, and the money-grabbing campaigns, there is not much room for those who care more about people than the dollar sign. As a result, the industry is increasingly frowned upon by those who do not depend on it for business purposes.

Danny Brown offers some great food for thought in his article:

"Simply put, success can come without the need to link bait for traffic, buffer numbers, bandwagon jump and similar."

How to Create Stunning Infographics in 30 Minutes or Less | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

Learn how to create stunning infographics - without spending hundreds of dollars on a graphic designer or losing your mind - in just 30 minutes or less.

From word clouds to network data visualizations, infographics have become a primary format for content in a relatively short period of time. Although the ‘infographic’ is nothing new, its proliferation and evolution has been nothing short of exponential in the past few years.

Whether you love them or hate them, the rising popularity of infographics can’t be denied.

The Re-imagining of PR

The Re-imagining of PR | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

The only industry changing more quickly than PR is the media, and we are inextricably intertwined. I entered PR in 1997.... In the midst of all of this, social media, the darling of the blogsphere, changed everything again. Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, in particular, have ushered PR into the era of authentic discourse. Press materials have turned into social content and briefings into conversations. It’s not about scripting the dialogue (although we do scrutinize our press releases much more closely since they are often reprinted verbatim!), but about participating in the conversation. Where do we go from here? Mary Meeker’s most recent iteration of her “Internet Trends Year-End Report” showed that mobile traffic has grown to account for 13 percent of Web traffic. As Meeker’s “re-imagining of everything” has pointed out, the only certainty is change, and mobile will play a starring role. Beyond the mechanics of how we communicate with audiences, the heart of good PR has been, and will be the same. We must offer unique and relevant viewpoints that are rooted in authority. Relationships matter and are fueled by our credibility and our authenticity. Getting there first only matters if we’re prepared. Finally, and most importantly, our jobs are ultimately to tell great stories. Below is an infographic we created to show how things have changed, and what will always remain...

How to Create a Culture of Storytelling | Philanthropy for All

How to Create a Culture of Storytelling | Philanthropy for All | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

There’s no denying it, storytelling can seem challenging. But I’ve taken the stance that storytelling can be demystified and that anyone can do it.

Read the full article to find five tips for creating a culture of storytelling at your organization:

1. Communicate to all staff members what kind of stories you are looking for

2. Hold a staff meeting to openly discuss what storytelling is, why it matters and why all staff members play a vital role in it

3. Make time at your staff meetings to tell stories.

4. Schedule an ongoing time to casually meet with staff from programs to talk about updates from their work and utilize it as a time to probe into any interesting stories they might have.

5. Start your own story bank for future reference.

Hi Thorsten -- the link needs fixing and I'm trying to do get that done. Thanks for your patience. The link should actually be to the entire curation. This post is a permanent post that acts as a kind of editorial page. The idea is when people want to direct others to the entire collection, they can scoop/re-scoop this page which should lead people to the site. Thanks for the comment and I'll work on clearing up any confusion! And many thanks for the suggestion, which I thought was fabulous.
