Now here is a fascinating application for storytelling that is popping up in the legal field -- having not-famous, not-rich defendants share their stories during sentencing that helps judges make better decisions about punishment.


Typically it's only clients with big bucks who can bankroll a digital story to present to the judge during sentencing. Now the playing field is getting leveled a bit here in CA.


What grabbed me about the article -- besides it being well written -- was how storytelling is making more inroads into the legal system, and as the article states, transform the process while reducing the divide between rich and poor defendants.


Learn the challenges of bringing digital stories into the work of public defenders, along with other issues this practice of digital storytelling raises.

Every year, Mary Meeker, partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, releases her internet trends report full of insight about everything from mobile device usage to internet usage breakdowns to internet usage breakdowns..Meeker unveiled the 2015 report at Recode’s Code conference today.


Highlights include:


- Internet users grew by 8 percent in 2015, down from 10 percent in 2013 and 11 percent in 2012

- Mobile subscriptions grew to 7 billion, with 2.1 billion smartphone subscriptions

-  New internet users are “likely to onboard” for the first time via a messaging app

- 64 percent of people are online in the US using a smartphone, up from just 18 percent in 2009....

I find giveaways a hit or a miss. Well, more of a miss than a hit, actually.


To me, the reason is simple: Brands big and small don't really have a plan. They are looking for a short-term solution for lack of likes, newsletter signups, comments, and sales.


Jim Belosic does a great job explaining what you need to do before you decide investing your time and money into giveaways. 


To me, question #1 (Does the prize have emotional appeal) is the most important. What do you think?
