Now here is a fascinating application for storytelling that is popping up in the legal field -- having not-famous, not-rich defendants share their stories during sentencing that helps judges make better decisions about punishment.

Typically it's only clients with big bucks who can bankroll a digital story to present to the judge during sentencing. Now the playing field is getting leveled a bit here in CA.

What grabbed me about the article -- besides it being well written -- was how storytelling is making more inroads into the legal system, and as the article states, transform the process while reducing the divide between rich and poor defendants.

Learn the challenges of bringing digital stories into the work of public defenders, along with other issues this practice of digital storytelling raises.

And consider -- is this a new market for any of you?

Art Jones's curator insight, May 26, 4:23 PM

Attorneys have always be very good at using story formula to reach their audience of judges and jurors on behalf of their high paying clients. Now defendants from all walks of life can showcase their authentic self for judges and jurors using the power of digital video in an attempt to influence judgements handed down.

There are some pitfalls to sharing without reading.

  • The story could be far worse quality than you anticipated, and it’d reflect poorly on your tastes and opinions.
  • The story could have a misleading headline. It could take an entirely different angle than you expected.
  • The words, language, and visuals may not be inline with your brand standards or policies.
  • You might be asked to give your opinion on the article.
  • Many people view it as a shady practice or even dishonest.

Why These Unique & Creative Text-Focused Websites Will Inspire You

Why These Unique & Creative Text-Focused Websites Will Inspire You | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

Typography is an important but often under-represented part of a website's layout. With so much focus being placed on the presentational aspects of CSS and the use of large images and media that choke bandwidth restraints; it’s nice to occasionally remember that textual content can also make an impact on users and their experience. Content remains king, and a few good fonts can make even the simplest of sites look smart - though not so many that you have to wait for ages for the text to be visible.

Because of this, I’m going to show you a few handpicked examples of sites that make their content look terrific, and why you should consider following their example in your own work. We’re going to take a journey of how elegant typography can make a site shine; looking at the bold, creative, navigational, simplistic and interactive content that makes the designer's voice speak volumes - so let’s get started!...

CEOs are finally embracing social. What does it mean to you? | Mark Schaefer

CEOs are finally embracing social. What does it mean to you? | Mark Schaefer | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

An analysis found that 80 percent of the CEOs of the world’s largest 50 companies are engaged online and on social media, more than double of what the same study found in 2010.

The findings are interesting because not long ago being social was once considered too risky, the article said. CEOs feared that saying the wrong thing online would ignite a firestorm of antagonists, dissatisfied customers, and disgruntled employees, who could threaten the company’s reputation. Now, having a digital strategy integrated across multiple channels is the new mandate to neutralize criticism. It’s become more important to transparently tell the company’s story and join the conversation.

Research  shows that five significant trends over the past five years have contributed to CEOs’ increased sociability....
