This is a very interesting development and reading. From a digital strategy point of view it is reasonable to align marketing with tech/IT. No doubt marketers will rely on tech the more digital world becomes.

Social Media Strategy: Why Insight and Evidence is So Important

Social Media Strategy: Why Insight and Evidence is So Important | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

I think the real data will show up when we explore linked open data of social networks, rendering this with social footprints, blogs and other contributions people who influence because they share their unique parts of the knowledge taxonomy with one another and like this comment, usually in a meta or keywording format/s.
Bryce Miller's curator insight, March 4, 11:38 PM

Social media strategies devoid of risk management can lead to long days in the court room. Most businesses are not aware of the legal and reputational risks surrounding social media done poorly.  Comments are welcome.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, May 21, 6:28 PM

"It’s been said that 85% of the people who work in social media have been in the industry for less than two years. I think it was LinkedIn who first suggested this, but it often explains why there is so much bad advice floating around, so many poorly devised strategic plans and so much money wasted on failed campaigns." We have serious problems because many are self-appointed leaders.

When I work with clients and their biz stories, and their organizational culture, I often talk about the need to develop patience. I also discuss with them the principle of deceleration resulting in acceleration.

This article, written by Drake Baer, explains both the need for patience and the principle of deceleration in order to accelerate. I know, it sounds so counter-intuitive! But it works.

What does this have to do with storytelling? Because way too often we rush to craft our stories without giving ourselves time to patiently sit with them, think about them, recraft them, learn more about ourselves from them, etc.

Spending the time to reflect on your story will get you to a more powerful piece more quickly. And your story creativity will definitely kick in by bringing more patience into the process.

This notion is rarely talked about in articles, but acknowledged as part of the story process among some top performance tellers.

So take a breath, relax, reflect, and give your creativity a chance to emerge.

Deep patience. Close attention. These are not virtues often associated with college students (or some tech workers, for that matter). But as Harvard art history professor Jennifer L. Roberts recently explained, the skills for finding the "details, relationships, and orders that take time to see" can be introduced.

A Day In The Life Of The Internet – infographic

A Day In The Life Of The Internet – infographic | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

'There are close to two and-a-half billion people online around the world – this number has grown 566 percent since the year 2000 – and 70 percent of them use the internet every day. As you might imagine, with that kind of presence, which amounts to more than a third of the global population, quite a lot happens over the course of each 24 hours.

The Internet never sleeps.  Is it possible to even fathom the idea of any given moment without someone in the world being connected to the Internet for one reason or another?  It wasn’t that long ago that the Internet wasn’t even a thing, but anymore it’s something that we can’t do without.  ztake a look at “A Day in the Life of the Internet”...

The Content Marketing Pyramid: Are You Hungry for Content? | Business 2 Community

The Content Marketing Pyramid: Are You Hungry for Content? | Business 2 Community | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

From 140-character tweets to 14,000-word print books, most content marketers now understand the value of producing content of varying lengths and format. But those that try to churn out equally high volumes of content at every length will soon find themselves collapsing from sheer exhaustion.

Enter the Content Marketing Pyramid, a framework which I first blogged about in 2010. Some have compared this content model to the old model of the food pyramid, and there are a few similarities. Both pyramids stress the importance of creating a strong foundation and building on that foundation with segments that are consumed (or created) at increasingly smaller intervals....

Why You Should Not Ignore Pinterest in Your Social Media Strategy - Search Engine Journal

Why You Should Not Ignore Pinterest in Your Social Media Strategy - Search Engine Journal | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

According to Mediabistro, users are spending more time on Pinterest than Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn combined. Pinterest is big and growing. Recent stats show this image and video based social networking site has just reached 48.7 million users. If your target market is hanging out on Pinterest, you cannot afford not to have a presence there.

How Pinterest Works

Pinterest is a visual bookmarking site where you can “pin” videos and images to share with others on online pinboards. The site is similar to other social bookmarking sites, but only allows you to share videos and images. People can follow you and re-pin the content you share. You can also re-pin, comment or like content pinned by other users. Visuals generate more engagement on social media. Given the visual nature of the social network, you can use it to drive traffic to your website, generate leads and maximize sales.

If you have not been taking Pinterest seriously, it’s time to take action. Pinterest is a perfect complement of other inbound traffic generation techniques such as SEO, email marketing and blogging. Here are some of the benefits of using Pinterest...

Curators Are The True Influencers

Curators Are The True Influencers | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it
Martin Debattista's curator insight, May 24, 7:31 AM

Reminds me of the 'attention economy' in Geert Lovink's book "No Comment" I am reading just now for my research:

"In the attention economy, value is measured in the amount of time

you happen to spend with any given media object or person. This can bea web site, watching your favorite show on television, text messaging afriend, talking on the phone, or blogging about the concert you attended-last night. For a long time the attention economy remained a hyped-upconcept, launched during the speculative 1990s to point to the shift fromthe production of tangible goods to immaterial services. The point thatmakes attention such an interesting commodity is the fact that it is soscarce. As Michael Goldhaber Writes in his 1996 Principles of the NewEconomy: "Attention is scarce because each of us has only so much of it to give, and it can come only from us-not machines, computers or anywhere else. Attention is another way of saying "time," as in "Where I choose to spend my time."
