The voice search explosion and how it will change local search

The voice search explosion and how it will change local search | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

Since I noted Timothy Tuttle of Mindmeld’s LSA16 comments about the sudden increase in the volume of voice search queries, I’ve noticed an increasing number of articles on the subject. If the attention being given voice search is an indication of its anticipated impact on the marketplace, then it’s going to be a big deal.

The potential for voice search to become a major search medium is well illustrated by the number of slides Mary Meeker devotes to the topic in her annual Internet Trends report that was just released this month. Out of 213 slides, Mary included 23 slides on voice search. And while the numbers on voice search growth vary quite widely, they all agree on one trend: explosive growth.

Explosive growth and the reason behind itAt LSA 16, Tuttle shared that within one year (last year), the use of voice search went from a statistical zero to 10 percent of all search volume. That was huge.

Yet more recent numbers show that growth accelerating — Google announced at I/O that 20 percent of all searches have voice intent, while Meeker’s charts show that in May 2016, 25 percent of searches on Windows 10 taskbar are voice searches....

SEO for Bloggers: How to Nail the Optimization Process for Your Posts - Whiteboard Friday

SEO for Bloggers: How to Nail the Optimization Process for Your Posts - Whiteboard Friday | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it
With the right process and a dose of patience, SEO success is always within reach — even if you're running your own blog. Optimizing your blog posts begins as early as the inception of your idea, and from then on you'll want to consider your keyword targeting, on-page factors, your intended audience, and more. In this Whiteboard Friday, Rand spells out a step-by-step process you can adopt to help increase search traffic to your blog over time.

Optimizing blog posts for search engines AND readership is an art. The process is quite intense and requires a lot of patience.

Rand Fishkin does a stellar job in this video demonstrating the most important steps. What I like the most is point #8: "Experiment, learn, and iterate."

This is not something where you follow this process and you have instant results with your first post. That's not the case. No one has that in blogging. That's just not how it works. You're going to launch, promote, analyze, apply the information that you learn, and launch again. This process is going to happen over and over, and the more you learn and apply, the better you're going to get at this system.

10 things you have to know about SEO & social media in 2016 - Memeburn

10 things you have to know about SEO & social media in 2016 - Memeburn | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

There is a misunderstanding about how social media and SEO work together, whilst we know that social media does affect the search rank, nobody seems to understand how. Social visibility is only achieved by being active, engagement is key, but creating and posting great content that shares quickly is also only half the job done. One cannot simply schedule standardised posts to go out across all social networks.

The SEO and Social Media discipline is not just about creating and posting great content, it’s about promoting that content so that it achieves the results we are looking for. Consider the following when thinking about your social media and how to derive the best SEO value from it....

New SEO Looks Like Old SEO
Thanks to David Kutcher we've embarked on a 3 part journey. Our goal is to show how and why the "NEW SEO" is beginning to look a lot like the OLD SEO.  Our journey has three parts that all start here:

* Love (coming soon)

* Community  (coming soon)

I'm in Columbus at Ohio State for my year anniversary of being treated by the great Doc Byrd. Will finish Why The NEW SEO is Looking Like The OLD SEO when I get home.

In the meantime BRANDS is live.

No More Tricks: 5 Ways to Create Content That Google Wants to Rank

No More Tricks: 5 Ways to Create Content That Google Wants to Rank | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

Google in particular has made incredible strides in the last few years. Recently, there was a huge Phantom update that caused huge shifts in rankings. This update was the result of Google changing its core algorithm once again. It’s only going to keep improving from here.

I know that some of you are frustrated and angry because of those changes. It sucks if your traffic declines because your pages now rank lower.

I understand that, but in all honesty, does your content deserve to be #1?It probably doesn’t. Maybe it did before, and maybe it got surpassed. Regardless of why, the good news is that you can get your rankings back.

How? Create the best damn content out there. There are no secrets at this point.

Considering organic search still makes up about 64% of referral traffic, it’s worth it....

Google's RankBrain and Penguin 4.0 to Shake Up the Internet

Google's RankBrain and Penguin 4.0 to Shake Up the Internet | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

Last week Google made a number of major announcements. There’s nothing unusual about that, of course, except this time the announcements have big implications for SEO, which will make thousands of businesses around the world wary about their efforts to scale SERPs.

This time around, Google has publicly discussed two new updates which offer a major shake-up to the standard Penguin or Panda upgrade. One is a new algorithm called RankBrain, which boasts machine learning capabilities, and the other is a slightly disconcerting real-time Penguin update. For the latter, it essentially means it’s time for businesses to be at the peak of their game with their SEO practices.

When not frightening businesses with a continuous SEO ranking update, Google is nearing completion of an extraordinary project which would bring the Internet to over 100 million people around Indonesia. For businesses, however, the big news is Google’s latest updates–here’s what’s known so far....

The Googleization of the World: SEO, RankBrain, Penguin 4.0 & Time

The Googleization of the World: SEO, RankBrain, Penguin 4.0 & Time | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

We Live In Google's World
If the web is the wild west then Google is the organizing and calming sheriff. There latest moves including slapping artificial intelligence into their algorithm and moving to real-time updates mean  we live in Google's world perhaps more than ever.

Google's ability to balance an ever changing world on the head of a pin can be admired, feared or detested depending on where your website is coming out, on how much traffic your site is losing or gaining based on the latest.

These changes mean a favorite too, the Penguin Tool ( http://barracuda.digital/panguin-tool/) is about to lose it's relevance. The ability to overlay Google's moves on your Google Analytics is yet another "not provided" move. Google wants to hold and control their data since control translates into the ability to sell those tools back to us.

As my friend and Google Watcher, Bill Slawski told me he thinks web marketers should be boning up on AI. As we lose our ability to SEE and learn from the web's data Bill is right. We better know AI or diversify our multichannel marketing FAST.

We live in Google's world perhaps now more than ever!
