Stop Treating Pinterest Like a Social Media Platform

Stop Treating Pinterest Like a Social Media Platform | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

Melissa Megginson's article makes some very valid points. Pinterest is certainly not designed for news content. Hashtags are listed differently from hashtags on Twitter and Facebook. And discussions are almost non-existent (at least in my circles).

It's important to remember that you should never treat all social media platforms in the same way (a.k.a. the Facebook way)...

Très bonne analyse de ce que recherchent les internautes sur Pinterest, qui n'est pas un réseau social mais un moteur de recherche pour les gens sur le seuil d'un changement de vie important ou à la recherche d'inspiration.

The Pinterest Conundrum

The Pinterest Conundrum | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

I love Pinterest but I agree with the conclusions of this article. The platform can be confusing.

Maybe it has a lot to do with the way many brands try to use it? Or maybe Pinterest is too young? It has great potential, though!

Some real life examples of brands that have mastered PM (Pinterest Marketing). These companies use the social media to exemplify, glamorize, and inspire customers to generate interest in products while providing a direct link to them for easy access. It's like instagram on steroids but with the same simplicity of use.

Why You Should Not Ignore Pinterest in Your Social Media Strategy - Search Engine Journal

Why You Should Not Ignore Pinterest in Your Social Media Strategy - Search Engine Journal | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

According to Mediabistro, users are spending more time on Pinterest than Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn combined. Pinterest is big and growing. Recent stats show this image and video based social networking site has just reached 48.7 million users. If your target market is hanging out on Pinterest, you cannot afford not to have a presence there.

How Pinterest Works

Pinterest is a visual bookmarking site where you can “pin” videos and images to share with others on online pinboards. The site is similar to other social bookmarking sites, but only allows you to share videos and images. People can follow you and re-pin the content you share. You can also re-pin, comment or like content pinned by other users. Visuals generate more engagement on social media. Given the visual nature of the social network, you can use it to drive traffic to your website, generate leads and maximize sales.

If you have not been taking Pinterest seriously, it’s time to take action. Pinterest is a perfect complement of other inbound traffic generation techniques such as SEO, email marketing and blogging. Here are some of the benefits of using Pinterest...

I really enjoyed this article due to the simplicity of the inforgraphic showcasing the information in a colourful and engaging way. As there are several types of social media such as facebook, twitter and tumblr (blogs) having media stratergy for each one is important. All of them have different communiction features and different target audiences. Kamal has chosen well and agreeing with emma that this really links well with the week 7 lecture topic.
Christine IMC's curator insight, September 27, 2013 3:15 AM

This is a good article as it uses infographics which makes it easier to understand and take in the idea of developing and implementing a media strategy and in this case for social media. The first 4 steps are the basics to developing a strategy and then it expands on it with not great detail but just the quick basic information one needs to know. Although one thing it doesn't mention though is analyzing a market or finding a target market which I beleive helps within the process of developing a strategy, knowing what potential customers to target or what market or segment.

Selina EverHungry Nihalani's curator insight, October 6, 2013 11:23 PM

In today’s market, social media has become an essential factor of building a business strategy. It is very important that we approach and engage customers through social sites. In the beginning of this article, it shows that a successful social media strategy depends on establishing a sound business goal. Goals must be defined clearly to utilize the appropriate social media in achieving the business goal. After the goals are set, it is also important to define the metrics and tactics. This is because these will measure whether the social media efforts are creating consideration and conversions with the target audience. Through this process, companies can evaluate and measure success and failures, and prepare for a better business strategy to succeed in social media.

I have been using Pinterest for almost a year now, and would recommend it to discerning professionals who would like to keep separate boards for different things. Pinterest also helps drive collaborative work as it is more likely that similar minded people will check out your boards and follow them. Added to this is the fact that as Facebook and Twitter become over used, Pinterest is a fresher platform which promotes newness. The advantage of having different boards is that you can file away different stuff in them. Teachers could have one board for lesson plans, another board for infographics, and yet another one for research materials and resources. I would definitely recommend Pinterest to all professionals who want to try something new and refreshing! Happy Pinning!

Pinterest for Marketers: Driving Engagement with Content Marketing

Pinterest for Marketers: Driving Engagement with Content Marketing | Digital Brand Marketing | Scoop.it

Pinterest is a consumer data goldmine if marketers know how to use it. With over 70 million active users pinning dreams, goals and projects every month, Pinterest marketers can harness very personal insight into what shoppers view as important and interesting enough to save for the future and share with their friends and followers.

Forrester has written that Pinterest has not yet proven effective for brands, but we decided to take a closer look to establish how the platform can work for marketers today.  We analyzed about 10 million social shares across the social web to determine how valuable Pinterest really is and how to use it strategically.

What we found shows the level at which Pinterest users are engaged with content and willing to share branded pins on other social platforms. Overall, consumers share branded links to Pinterest content 1.5x more frequently than general branded content on the social web....
