Les élèves se dotent d’un code d’éthique

Dès l’automne prochain, les élèves de niveau secondaire de la Commission scolaire de la Capitale auront leur code d’éthique.

Gust MEES's curator insight, February 13, 2013 9:37 AM

Facebook's Graph Search worries security experts

Facebook's Graph Search worries security experts | Exploring Digital Citizenship | Scoop.it
Post highlighting embarrassing things raises questions of user privacy with Graph Search, which Facebook users cannot opt out of

Facebook believes its responsibility is to provide the privacy settings, while users are responsible for using them. "You control who you share your interests and likes with on Facebook," the company said Thursday in an emailed statement.

When joining Facebook, people trade their personal information for free use of the social network. Given that, security experts agree that people are responsible for controlling who sees that information.

However, some experts believe Facebook does not go far enough in educating users about the potential threats in keeping information public. Because Graph Search makes all that personal information easily searchable, education on its dangers should be a much higher priority for Facebook.

===> "Some people do not grasp the importance of Graph Search," said Bogdon Botezatu, a senior e-threat analyst for Bitdefender. "So maybe it would be better for Facebook to actually inform people that some things will change." <===

Prezi, a popular alternative to Microsoft PowerPoint and other presentation applications, launched a new version of its interface today. The company, which is advised by Jack Dorsey, also announced that it has passed the 15 million user milestone.

For those not familiar, Prezi uses a map-like metaphor for creating presentations instead of a slideshow metaphor. This makes it possible to create non-linear presentations, or presentations that use spatial metaphors for organizing ideas, like mind maps...

PRIVACY AND ICT The whys and wherefores of privacy

Privacy is a sensitive subject to which people attach great importance. The only problem is that they do not know exactly why. Still, if it is so important then it is also necessary to establish why that is the case. It is therefore the task of ethicists to clarify the relevant theoretical arguments and practical implications.

Any topics that touch on privacy, such as the electronic files on patients (efp) and cameras in public spaces therefore soon become topics of heated social and political debate. People appreciate the advantages of new information technology but are at the same time alarmed to realize that so much is known about them. It is often emotions that play a decisive role because the relevant arguments are difficult to formulate not to mention weigh up.
