The British Library

The British Library | Visual Design and Presentation in Higher Edcuation | Scoop.it

The British Library has recently released over a million images  onto Flickr Commons for anyone to use, remix and repurpose. These images are taken from books dating back to the 17th, 18th, and 19th century. The images were initially owned and digitized by Microsoft and then later on were given to the British Library to be released into the public domain.

The images cover a wide range of themes and  topics and are presented in different forms including: maps, geological diagrams, landscapes, beautiful illustrations, wall paintings, illuminated and decorative letters, comical satire, and many more. The images have been tagged to " aid browsing and to provide new views on the works themselves. They are tagged by publication year (eg 1764, 1864, 1884), by book (eg 003927270, 000149253), by author (eg Charles Dickens) and by other means. "

5 Creative Uses Of PowerPoint Presentations You Haven’t Explored Yet

5 Creative Uses Of PowerPoint Presentations You Haven’t Explored Yet | Visual Design and Presentation in Higher Edcuation | Scoop.it

Death by PowerPoint is a popular term. It’s unfair that PowerPoint gets the stick as there are more than a few presentation tools around. As anyone who has taken the pains to make a memorable PowerPoint presentation will tell you – the secret of the steak is in the sizzle. The sizzle also comes and stops at creativity. If you have creativity by your side, you can use PowerPoint as your canvas.

5 Creative Uses Of PowerPoint Presentations

Karen Ford's curator insight, November 4, 2013 12:53 PM

I think "death by PowerPoint" is used so often because so many users have not "taken the pains to make a memorable..." presentation and the concept of creativity might not have even been considered. That means we have to get the great ideas to the teachers and  their students... not just telling them, but perhaps showing them...
