Social Networks More Influential in Emerging Markets - eMarketer

Social Networks More Influential in Emerging Markets - eMarketer | DigiPharma | Scoop.it

Social network usage grows in emerging markets; users there more open to brands. With emerging markets the main focal point of pharma investment is digital communications the most cost effective way to engage in these new markets? Personally I'd argue that it's the most cost effective way to engage in most markets and traditional communication channels should at least have a digital “call to action” to allow further engagement and measurement. Social isn't always the simplest solution to create strategies for, as local variation in technology uptake/access, demographic usage and social media website choice can be large.

The Trouble with Treating Patients as Consumers

The Trouble with Treating Patients as Consumers | DigiPharma | Scoop.it
To be a patient today is to be treated as a consumer. But treating patients as typical proactive, in control, well-informed consumers can backfire.

By pharma and healthcare providers not providing accurate information are we leaving patients to rely on the wisdom of the non medical professional crowd? Research shows that a patients first point of call pre and post clinical consultation is the internet, it highlights that the real problem is access to quality and accurate information. Once a patient has information (accurate or not) there is a desire and drive to discuss within forums and social media. While online information tends on the whole to be reasonably accurate the quality of discussion can vary. This is the area where pharma needs to step up. Fear of discussion has been the main barrier so far, but with all the data showing this is what patients want how long can pharma carry on ignoring this opportunity?

Pragmatism vs. Possibility the false pharma fight over the iPad

Pragmatism vs. Possibility the false pharma fight over the iPad | DigiPharma | Scoop.it

The pace of adoption of the iPad continues to startle, and already half of the top 20 pharma companies have bought into the tablet platform. But now comes the tricky part how will pharma actually use their fancy new machines Bill Drummy reports

One of the biggest benefits of electronic sales aids is often missed by pharma... capturing data about how customers interact with the detail aid.

What areas did that cusrtomer spend the most time on? What information did the doctor look at in more depth? Which Key Opinion Leader did the doctor spend the most time on? With GPS enabled was the call done in the physicians surgery or actually in the McDonalds car park.

The wealth and complexity of data that can be captured can radically change both marketing and sales force practice. Direct integration with CRM should mean the opportunity to integrate marketing with the sales team and provide a much more personalised and effective means of communication. The ipad sales aid doesn't just provide a wow factor with physicians, its a means to gain real customer insights.

Increasing your Brand’s Online Influence

Increasing your Brand’s Online Influence | DigiPharma | Scoop.it

Influence is what marketing and communication is all about. Engaging and changing behaviours online is as vital as any and brand or company. Pharma isn't any different and despite what some marketeers may think. The demand for information is greater than ever and the first point of call for the majority of patients and healthcare professionals is online. Pharma brands have the added challenge of competing online with spam websites (you online have to look at your spam inbox to understand the volume of companies offering cheap drugs from Canada). With social having the greatest impact search engine results, pharma needs to start thinking about how it should integrate social into its brand strategy.
