Teaching With QR Codes

Teaching With QR Codes | DIGI-TOOLS - The Intersection of Tech Integration, Innovation, and Instruction | Scoop.it

"So, what are QR Codes, you ask?  Well, you know what barcodes are,  like when you buy something at the store and the clerk scans a code to enter the item and amount into the till?  The QR (Quick Response) Code is kind of like that, except that it offers much more information.  Quite often the QR Code will give you a link to a website, or a text message, image, etc.  To read the QR Code, you need to install a QR Code Reader onto your device.  There are many available for free.  I like using i-nigma, seen below. Simply open the app, point it at a QR Code and your device will do the rest.  Try it with the code above.  It should take you back to this blog."

Endless Wordplay - A Fun iPad App for Spelling Lessons - iPad Apps for School

Endless Wordplay - A Fun iPad App for Spelling Lessons - iPad Apps for School | DIGI-TOOLS - The Intersection of Tech Integration, Innovation, and Instruction | Scoop.it

 - iPadApps for SchoolEndless Wordplay is a great new app from the same people that brought us the popular Endless Alphabet, Numbers, and Reader apps. In Endless Alphabet students help a friendly monster navigate a make believe world by spelling words correctly. At each stop in the adventure students have to spell a series of three rhyming words. The app reads the word to students and provides them with hints when they get stuck on a spelling. Endless Wordplay doesn’t award points. Instead of earning points the incentive is just to keep moving forward in the game at your own pace.

5 Critical Mistakes Schools Make With iPads (And How To Correct Them) | Reality

5 Critical Mistakes Schools Make With iPads (And How To Correct Them) | Reality | DIGI-TOOLS - The Intersection of Tech Integration, Innovation, and Instruction | Scoop.it

Focusing on iPad-versus.-laptop comparisons stifles the ability to see how the iPad facilitates student-centered learning. iPads are devices meant to compliment computers, not replace them.

So, people who seek equivalent functionality become frustrated, and fail to realize the intrinsic benefits and features of the iPad’s native design.

Instead, schools should focus their energies on what iPads do best to engender active learning. iPads enable students to kinesthetically connect with their work (especially important for young learners). These tactile elements – using fingers to zoom, rotate in, pinch close, or swipe across – as well as increasingly interactive and immersive apps, facilitate hands-on learning.
