The "Kid Blog' is a safe and effective way to allow your students to keep up to date blogs in a secure evironment. With these blogs students can not only post their own blogs, but oarticipate in discussions.

I feel this is a gerat resourse to use within the classroom, as students and teachers can keep track of students posts and especially look at their progress throughout the year.

Looks like a great tool and it's entirely free. I like that it is based on the Wordpress platform, but removes the clutter and distractions that other blogging services have.

Benefits of blended learning

Blended learning allows teachers to do what they do best – work directly and closely with individual students and small groups – by harnessing the adaptive power and precision of technology. The best blended learning approaches use technology to:

- help each student master the content and skills they need,
- allow teachers to get the most out of their planning and instructional time, and
- streamline operations with costs similar to – or less than – traditional schooling.

Are Teachers of Tomorrow Prepared to Use Innovative Tech? | MindShift | Differentiating Instruction Through Blended Learning | Scoop.it

A new Project Tomorrow report surveying principals concluded that they want to hire new teachers with creative ideas about how technology can be leveraged to create authentic and differentiated learning experiences. But student-teachers report that their tech training focuses only on simple management tools. At the same time, the report concludes that those who have the biggest influence on new teachers — veteran educators –  don’t always embrace new ways of using technology to engage students.

Karen Bonanno's curator insight, March 17, 2013 5:22 PM

Interesting stats: "Only half of current working teachers believe they can use technology to motivate students to learn, compared to 75 percent of incoming teachers. Only 17 percent of current teachers believe technology can help students deeply explore their own ideas, compared to 59 percent of incoming teachers. And 26 percent of current teachers believe students can use technology to apply knowledge to problem-solving, compared to 64 percent of aspiring teachers."
