These have been important for some time. I struggle with the final one. I am not sure that learning as a concrete enjoyable activity is well-served by career management. I wonder what that means to a kindergarten student.

This is a fantastic resource for seeing how words have changed according to geography. Type a word into the box and see it translated directly on to a map in more than 30 languages. Great for teaching kids about regions of language, or asking how they think a certain country came to use a certain word.

This pretty much seems to be worthy goals for us to strive for.

Gary Harwell's curator insight, December 29, 2013 11:20 PM

Everyone should be working in this direction.

Renee Stewart's curator insight, January 25, 11:03 PM

I think that these are the right answers for the goal of all education, with or without technological integration. We don't teach kids to use a hammer so they can bash things, it is so that they can integrate it as a tool to be used purposefully to achieve a greater goal e.g. the building of a house. In the process they develop hand-eye coordination, muscle control, restraint and safety-awareness. Digital tools - Analog tools, all valuable, all have their place within the context of broader learning. Our goal is to help students learn to match and the best tools for the task and then support them as they acquire both the tool specific skills and the broader educational goal.

Does Losing Handwriting In School Mean Losing Other Skills Too?

Learning to write by hand has learning benefits that could be neglected if too much focus is put on keyboarding.

ChristopherBell's curator insight, June 12, 8:30 PM

This is an ongoing discussion between my English Teacher friend and I.  I think the real question is why are we still teaching keyboarding??

Allan Shaw's curator insight, June 13, 1:21 AM

It is becoming clearer that it is important that we do not lose  handwriting as a skill! Strong positive neural development in a child is far more important than adeptness in using digital technologies. If research continues to support these initial studies many educators will need to reflect and possibly readjust.

Sharla Shults's curator insight, June 16, 2:57 PM

New evidence suggests that the links between handwriting and broader educational development run deep. Children not only learn to read more quickly when they first learn to write by hand, but they also remain better able to generate ideas and retain information. In other words, it’s not just what we write that matters — but how.

Des idées évidentes mais sans doute pas encore pour tout le monde !

ExamTime's curator insight, May 6, 4:42 AM

I think learners producing content rather than simply consuming is an important point to keep in mind. This idea is the basis of why ExamTime, the elearning web-app I work on, was created. With ExamTime, students create their own Mind Maps, Flashcards and other learning aids to improve their understanding of theory and overall learning.

Ivon Prefontaine's curator insight, May 6, 12:55 PM

Relationships are at the centre of education. It is no longer teacher-centred or learner-centred. In a sense, teachers and students are learning alongside each other. I am not sure it will always be the teacher leading the way although they have to be willing to know when to let go and when to take charge. Content is still incredibly important in that unless it connects to the lives of teachers and students it is not practical and meaningful. Technology is rarely seamlessly integrated.

Content Curation: Inspiration wants to be free — news for iPad users | Differentiated and ict Instruction | Scoop.it

Another angle is to look at the iPad as a device to learn. It’s already had a huge impact on education with digital textbooks and connectivity to the Internet’s knowledge. But as educators know well, consuming knowledge passively is not as good as being active in the process: learning by doing works best and — like I did myself starting my iPad topic ===>  knowledge sharing is also a great way to learn. <===
