This is a great list, we have used several of these in the past, but Socrative and Google  Forms are our favs. I would like to throw answergarden.ch in here as well, not so mich for quizzes, but more for brainstorming and quick feedback.

Why we should all think about the gamification of education

Why we should all think about the gamification of education | Differentiated and ict Instruction | Scoop.it
The educational system as we know it needs a revamp. Actually, a revamp is not enough. The educational system needs to be restructured. A lot of things need to change, and the sooner that happens, the better. Too many students drop out of school, and this isn’t the way to get successful... http://elearningfeeds.com/why-we-should-all-think-about-the-gamification-of-education/

Why the CIA uses board games to train its officers

Why the CIA uses board games to train its officers | Differentiated and ict Instruction | Scoop.it
Dungeons and Dragons, Pokémon card games and role-playing games are more than entertainment -- they're inspiration for the CIA.
David Clopper, senior collection analyst with 16 years' experience at the CIA, also serves as a game maker for the agency. From card games to board games, Clopper creates games to train CIA staffers including intelligence officers and political analysts for real-world situations.
"Gaming is part of the human condition. Why not take advantage of that and incorporate into the way we learn?" Clopper said Sunday at a games-themed panel discussion at the South by Southwest Interactive technology festival. Clopper and other CIA officers discussed how the agency uses games to teach strategy, intelligence gathering and collaboration.

Fabiana Garcia Marulanda's curator insight, March 26, 10:13 PM
According to some experts, the kids needs movements during the class as method to be more energetic and better learners because those moments through the class allow the brain to stimulates more blood vessels to support more brain cells. In my point of view, the schools should implemented this method so as to enhance their attention.

The link between playing violent video games and antisocial behavior, such as increased aggression and decreased empathy, is hotly debated. In a recent study the long-term effects of playing violent video games were investigated. This study found that empathy is not blunted by playing such games long-term.

Innovate My School - An immersive world of learning through play | Differentiated and ict Instruction | Scoop.it
Children are naturally creative, and in order to encourage their talents, we should be nurturing this creativity, rather than forcing it into a box-ticking process. It’s no secret that when children are having fun, they learn more about the topic as their engagement is greater. By allowing them to see subjects in a playful manner, they will be more enthusiastic about them later in their school careers, and they will have developed the cognitive and personal skills needed to work with others in their class more effectively.

Learning in the Age of Digital Distraction

Learning in the Age of Digital Distraction | Differentiated and ict Instruction | Scoop.it
There needs to be some positive acceptance that young people are going to use this technology. I don't think that just denying it is reasonable. I also don't think an extended period of removing technology is likely to be helpful. I think that it is reasonable to take technology "time outs," to have environments and maybe even times where the family interacts with each other and not the outside world through texts. It's sort of a return to the dinner table as a place where you learn how to engage in face-to-face, meaningful contact. Put your tech aside. You can return to it afterwards.

And I think to lead by example is critical because we now know that parents are as guilty as their kids in pulling out a phone during a dinner conversation and texting. I think that that is really critical just to say it has to be balanced and we're going to practice how to balance it as a family.

Girls Make Games Teams Up with PlayStation for Game Development Summer Camp

SAN MATEO, CA, March 7, 2017 - As part of its continued effort to increase gender diversity in the gaming industry, Girls Make Games (GMG) is joining forces with PlayStation to host its next game development summer camp for girls ages 11-14.
“Numerous reports have shed light on the growing number of female gamers, but less than 15 percent of the games industry workforce is women,” notes Laila Shabir, CEO and founder of Girls Make Games.

“This is not because girls or women are not interested in making games—GMG’s growth proves otherwise. We’re thrilled about working with PlayStation to encourage and empower more young women to learn about and pursue careers in technology and game development.”

Using Games for Serious Learning in High School

Using Games for Serious Learning in High School | Differentiated and ict Instruction | Scoop.it
Logistics of Game-Based Learning
Because video game licenses can be expensive, consider using learning centers. For example, 1979 Revolution could be situated in a station rotation covering political revolutions. It could be used as a text, alongside the graphic novel Persepolis, the film Argo, and BrainPOP videos about the French Revolution. You could include the other games in different units in a similar way.

How do you envision using impactful games with your high school ELA students? Please share in the comments below.

Boston Area College Students Develop VR Game Based on ‘Ulysses’ -- Campus Technology | Differentiated and ict Instruction | Scoop.it
An English class at Boston College is bringing together students from different disciplines and areas of study to build a virtual reality (VR) game experience. Dubbed “Joycestick,” the game brings author James Joyce’s classic Ulysses to life.

“Technology has moved on and people tell the stories about themselves in very different ways,” said Joseph Nugent, an assistant professor of English literature at Boston College leading the class. “Immersive technology seems to me to be a transformative change in the way that we’re going to understand and realize and represent and be in the world. And to think that we can do this along with a novel like Ulysses, to merge these things, is very exciting.”
