Story telling was a great tool in the past. It has been rediscovered now.
The reason why story telling  succeeds is it provides a context for the learning. It helps to answer the key questions - how and why - that often are ignored in other methods of instructions. Story telling, I wd say, is human-centered instruction design.

Superstar MIT Professor Catherine Drennan (HHMI Scientist too – the top of the top in the world) shared her personal journey with dyslexia. She was in remedial classes and had to repeat a grade, and saw her self dropped lower and lower through all the reading groups, until her parents were pulled aside and told “She’s probably not going to be able to graduate from high school…”

The whole world is getting digital. Every field has realized the influence of digital platform, so it’s time to introduce it in the medical field. Kids are not going to be scolded anymore for playing video games. These games are going be a part of the prescription for treating children with ADHD. This is an amazing concept of engaging the children to conduct the treatment. They are reluctant to take medicines and do any exercise. But treatment through any kind of game is the best way to grab the attention of kids.

One more thing is essential for a child suffering from ADHD is a healthy diet. It is important to consult a nutritionist, if your child is diagnosed with an ADHD. An adequate amount of water is beneficial for them. They may feel lethargic due to lack of water in their body.

Candy and sugary drinks are the favorite food items of kids, but as a parent you should be aware which food is healthy and which is not. Στις 9 Φεβρουαρίου 2016, την Ημέρα Ασφαλούς Διαδικτύου, η δράση eSafetyLabel του Ευρωπαϊκού Σχολικού Δικτύου (EUN) γιορτάζει τα 2 χρόνια παρουσίας, με τα ελληνικά σχολεία να διατηρούν την πανευρωπαϊκή πρωτιά στην πιστοποίηση σχολείων με την ετικέτα Ψηφιακής Ασφάλειας. Είμαστε στην ευχάριστη θέση να ανακοινώσουμε ότι η κοινότητα eSafety Label μεγαλώνει και ότι, ως σήμερα, πάνω από 3.000 εκπαιδευτικοί από όλη την Ευρώπη έχουν ενταχθεί σε αυτήν. It’s a great way for kids to learn the game, show off their existing skills, and connect with other young Minecraft fans around the world in a safe environment. From novice level to expert, all are welcome, and beware, the challenges will get harder every week. Owen would like to know which country has the most Minecraft fans and will do a ranking at the end of the month, so be sure to share this challenge with everyone you know! Let’s see which country can get the most uploads!

Research: Game-Based Learning Can Help Nontraditional Student -- Campus Technology | Differentiated and ict Instruction | Scoop.it

In a report on its findings, "The Potential for Game-Based Learning to Improve Outcomes for Nontraditional Students," funded by a $260,500 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the company identified multiple activities game elements can deliver to help these students "succeed in their academic journey":

- By engaging them in ways to help them understand their learning styles and strengths and make better decisions as they choose programs and courses;

- To give them practice strategies and help them develop learning skills, such as how to approach assignments and manage their time;

- To give them "positive safe assessment" that's nonjudgmental; and

- To help them develop a growth mindset and prove their own learning potential through "leveling up" in game-based challenges.

Without a more sophisticated and evidence-based approach to feedback designs all areas of learning whether they are game-based or otherwise are held back. We proceeded to develop our own feedback model based on earlier work on the ‘four dimensional framework’ (Dunwell & de Freitas, 2011; de Freitas & Oliver, 2006) and still plan to test it. For sure, more work is needed in this space, and any findings will enhance learning in any context

The frontal cortex of the brain plays a crucial part in cognitive functions, including everyday mental processes such as attention, memory, learning, decision-making and problem-solving. However, little is known about how the frontal cortex performs these mental processes, including which neuronal cell types are involved. A longstanding theory holds that parvalbumin-expressing neurons (PV cells) play a key role in cognition; now, however, researchers show that PV cells seem to be not only essential to attention; it also appears that it is enough to optimise PV cell activity in order to enhance attention.

Με αφορμή την Ημέρα Ασφαλούς Διαδικτύου στις 9/2 #SID2016, μήπως ήρθε η ώρα για περισσότερους εκπαιδευτικούς Π/θμιας και Δ/θμιας να διεκδικήσουν μια πανευρωπαϊκή διαπίστευση για την ψηφιακή ασφάλεια των σχολείων τους; Τι είναι όμως η ετικέτα eSafety Label και ποια ακριβώς είναι η διαδικασία για την απόκτησή της;
