Since the brand market is still increasing and each has countless competitors out in the world, advertising surely is one of the most important tools of IMC - In order to send a consistent, persuasive message to target audiences and get consumer attentions so that it builds up a relationship with consumers.

It is easy to get confused about advertising and promotion. After reading this article, it helps us make those two terms more clear. Advertising is focused on one particular product or service. It is distinguished from promotion because it is a paid form of mass communication. Advertising can take the form of television, radio, print, internet, outdoor billboards, etc. However, promotion is the ongoing activity of advertising. It makes less profits to keep the product in the minds of the customers and helps stimulate demand for the product.

Advertising is designed to have a long term impact, and effects on long term memory and judgment. Promotions are more short term. It is best used sparingly and not all the time, just like discount offers or buy one get one free, its effect is short term.

When developing an IMC campaign it is important to take into consideration both advertising and promotion separately, yet still integrate the message . It is through these that a brand can first connect with a consumer.

I agree that using good method of advertising and promotion is very important to any organizations. Since the social advertising is becoming more of a necessity today, Companies trying to reach a larger audience should be aware more of social media/technologies to build up an engaged community with consumers.
