A diabetes awards ceremony has recognised the work of volunteers in Swindon who give their time to help individuals suffering from the blood sugar disease .
The Diabetes UK Swindon Voluntary Group came away with the prize for exceptional and outstanding work by a voluntary group at the South West Diabetes UK Inspire Awards, the Swindon Advertiser reports.
Held in Taunton, the event saw the organisation praised for the many awareness-raising activities it has held down the years, as well as its active support for Diabetes UK - including donations to the charity worth more than £77,000.
In addition, the group is held in high regard by healthcare professionals and has a proven track record with regard to NHS engagement.
Regional manager for Diabetes UK South West Graham Cooper described the Diabetes UK Swindon Voluntary Group as a worthy winner of the award.
Mr Cooper stated: "The voluntary groups are vital to our work as a charity and I am delighted that the selfless hard work and dedication of the volunteers in Swindon has been recognised."
