Penn State College of Medicine has received a nearly $500,000 Type 1 Diabetes Targeted Research Award from the National Institutes of Health. The application was one of only two selected to receive funding.

This article looks at an important difference between people with type 1 diabetes. Some type 1 diabetics completely stop producing insulin, while others continue to produce a small amount. Research is being done to learn more about their immune systems, and keep those that still produce insulin to continue to produce it longer with a combination of drugs.
