My son has been a Type 1 diabetic for more than 15 years. Albert tests his blood sugars at least six or seven times a day and wears an insulin pump so his medication can be delivered continuously. Our country is facing a diabetes crisis.

Diagnosed at 3, Ellie suffers from vision and hearing impairments because of Wolfram, which essentially is a mutation of the WFS1 gene. Ellie faces the challenges of the illness with courage in order to live a normal, healthy childhood. After meeting Ellie, Leroux was touched by her story and discussed it with a Wilmington friend who happened to watch “America’s Got Talent” weekly. Immediately, Leroux decided there must be a way to help the White family in their quest to fight Wolfram. A dancer and very much immersed in the film industry, Leroux decided a documentary should be made....

Now that it is summer we are outside constantly and jumping in the lake! Diabetes does pose a few challenges when it comes to water play, but not enough to keep our kids out of the water.

The Animas Ping pump so far seems to be indestructible. I had reservations about it’s longevity when we got it. My son is a very rough and tumble toddler and I didn’t think the pump could stand up to his daily abuse… but it has...

Israeli Death Rate from Diabetes Higher than in Europe

The death rate from diabetes in Israel is 2.5 times higher than average in 19 European countries, according to a new report by the Ministry of Health, highlights of which were presented, Tuesday morning on Israel Defense Forces Radio. The report also reveals that the mortality rate for kidney disease is almost three times as high as in Europe.

The ministry explained that the Israeli population is eating more unhealthy food, smokes more, and does not invest enough in physical activity. At the same time, some doctors argue that the source of the gap between Israel and Europe is due to different monitoring methods.

Sunderland Bodybuilder Anth Bailes Crowned Mr World Despite Suffering Type One Diabetes

Hetton's Anth Bailes has a real claim to fame.

The 35-year-old was crowned 'Mr World' in June after already holding the title of Mr Britain.

He won the 'Mr World' crown after dieting for 22 weeks.

But significantly, Anth has type one diabetes and had to work even harder to achieve his goal.

Under already strict dietary controls for competition, his diabetes means that whilst training he must also check his blood sugar levels six times a day.
