A Review of VerioIQ, New Blood Glucose Meter from OneTouch

A Review of VerioIQ, New Blood Glucose Meter from OneTouch | diabetes and more | Scoop.it
VerioIQ is billed as the first meter that searches for and alerts the user to high or low blood glucose patterns.

Testing my blood sugar is a task I have done faithfully, frequently, and yet without much enthusiasm every day for more than 20 years. It has been like brushing my teeth – I know it’s good for me, so I do it. I’m like a robot.
And that’s the problem: I check my blood sugar (at least six times a day), I make a decision in the moment (e.g. take insulin, or treat a low), and then I put the number out of my mind (it’s stored in the meter, right?).

Tsk, tsk, I imagine my diabetes nurse implying when I show up for a three-month appointment with my meter and only a vague guess as to what the data will show when we download them.

But I have good news: There is a new blood glucose meter from OneTouch that may change my reactive approach to monitoring. Called the VerioIQ, it’s billed as the first meter that searches for and alerts the user to high or low blood glucose patterns....

If you want to go gluten-free, go to Finland | A Sweet Life | A Sweet Life

If you want to go gluten-free, go to Finland | A Sweet Life | A Sweet Life | diabetes and more | Scoop.it

....Now that is celiac-friendly.
So what gives? Why is Finland so happily gluteeniton? Anecdotally, it seems that a lot of people have celiac disease. My sister, her uncle, the father of so-and-so. A quick search affirms the anecdotes, showing that Finland has at least the highest reported rate of celiac disease [1].
I knew coming here that Finland has lots of type 1 diabetics (relatively), with the highest incidence rate worldwide [2]. I guess I should have suspected a high rate of celiac disease as well, given the rate of co-occurrence, but, not having celiac disease myself, I didn’t think of it.
But now that I’m here, I must say: if you want to go gluten-free, go to Finland. America’s recent awareness of celiac disease pales in comparison to Finland’s full embrace of living gluteeniton!

Friends For Life: Where The Magic Lies.
"I did the math - there are probably around 800 people with diabetes in this hotel. If they all test around eight times per day, and we're here the equivalent of five days... that means we generate 32,000 used test strips at the end of this conference. No wonder we're finding them all over the floor." - a father of a child with T1...

The Journey of Sam's Elephant

We're on the Road!
7/10/2012
We are on the road and heading to New York City! After we left Orlando on Sunday, we went to Atlanta. I was so excited to see some cool stuff, like maybe take in a tour of Coca Cola or even head to an Atlanta Braves game. But we just stopped at the airport Marriott - and there wasn't a lot to see. It's also been quite a trip! Last night, we got so hungry that we ate all of Marissa and Adam's M&M's and a bag of Starburst candy. It helps keep my colors so bright!

Today we are heading to Cherokee, NC, along the Blue Ridge Parkway and it is so beautiful! When we got to the entrance, Laura and Neal took me out of the van so we could pose for a photo! While we were standing there, a couple in a blue convertible stopped and said, "There must be a good story behind this!" They should only know!!

I've had some time to think about it, and I'm still not sure what I want to say about Friends for Life. I'm having a lot of trouble coming up with the words. Sara, Kim, Brian, Kerri, Martin, Karen, Meri, and Kate have written some fantastic posts about the week.

It's not often that I am speechless. But when it comes to spending a week surrounded by people with diabetes and their loved ones, words are hard to come by.
