It has become a little obvious that the packaging, signing and publishing to BlackBerry PlayBook is a little difficult process. Yes, it took me a while to figure out how to do it.
There is a couple of ways to display web pages in your AIR mobile app: the navigateToURL method and the AS3 StageWebView class. We discuss both, but focus on StageWebView as it displays web content without leaving your app.

Like to wander the universe? Checkout this nice game Spaced Away for iPad by Falanxia gaming studio from Prague. Download the game from App Store. The game is using GPU render mode and DisplayList for rendering.
StageText allows some nice features, such as dictionary completion from the OS and better keyboard support for alternative keyboards, to advanced features like quick zoom and fancy selection support that each OS provides. But it ruins the Events that one would expect that it dispatches. I don’t know if this is true for ALL events, but certainly it is true for KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP, KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, and Event.CHANGE. Bummer!
Terry Ryan presents Building Mobile Apps for Multiple Devices with Flex...
Scrolling thought a list of items on a mobile device is one of the most common, and graphically taxing, interactions that developers have to support.
Adobe AIR provides a very attractive abstraction layer for video playback on mobile devices, but a certain level of knowledge is required to take full advantage.
Our first toolkit in a series of time saving AIR mobile Flex component toolkits. The MobileUI Toolkit 1 focuses on; A PopUp that is an inversion of control type manager decorating SkinnablePopUpCtontainer subclasses such as the Dialog and TextDialog. An Alert API that uses static methods but is not at all tied to static methods for open and close, the PopUp class can even be extended. An enhanced MobileButton that adds a longClick event and longClickDelay style. A vertical and horizontal Picker component that is not based off of the List. This is important for memory and performance needs. A simple ProgressBar component that allows for primary, secondary and indeterminate progress levels plus left and right layout directions. A very powerful and skinnable/styleable RatingBar component that subclasses the ProgressBar. A WebView component that wraps the StageWebView and adds UIComponent layout logic. A SkinnableStageWebview that can be used to create composite WebView components with controls. A WebViewBrowser that has actually implemented the SkinnableStageWebview with skinparts to make a simple OS browser.

Below you will find a recording with a tutorial of my as3c2dm ANE. Since I published this lib I have received tons of messages and comments with help requests. as3c2dm is an Adobe AIR native extension to push notifications with C2DM. C2DM allows you to push notifications to your Android applications. The cool thing about it is that your application doesn’t have to run in the background in order to receive messages. In case of my ANE it creates a notification with specified ticker, title and text. When the user taps on the notification it runs AIR application and pass sent message text that is displayed in the app. Checkout the magic for yourself in the video below.
The rapidly increasing number of screens that Flash applications can run on, and rapidly decreasing amount of time I have to actually write code encouraged me to find a way to share as much code across as many screen targets as possible (Web, AIR,...
It has occurred to me recently that there is actually a lot of confusion when talking about maps and adding mapping functionality to a Flex application, be it a web application or a mobile application. When talking about mapping, it’s important to first differentiate between straight ‘mapping’ and ‘GIS’. As well, you also need to differentiate between mapping frameworks & apis and map data sources. Things can get very confusing otherwise. I’ll go through the various options I know about below and try to explain and differentiate where possible.
