Empathy among corporate managers is in short supply, according to a survey of more than 600 employees by talent mobility consulting firm Lee Hecht Harrison.


The survey found that 58 percent of managers fail to show the right level of understanding toward their employees.

A retenir : le peer shadowing. Immersion dans la réalité de l’autre et projection dans l’action : ce sont ces expériences sensibles et émotionnelles qui petit à petit permettent de construire une réalité partagée et de changer. Par exemple, un militant d’ONG accompagne un cadre dans son entreprise ; des binômes cadre-militant partent sur le terrain plusieurs jours, etc. Puis, ils s’attellent à des projets pilotes.

To manage effectively at the digital age, we need to change the operational software of our organizations. Old structures and behaviors based on top-down hierarchy are not functioning in this new context, holding to these previous practices first lead to dysfunctional enterprise, new competitors emergence and up to bankruptcy when leaders refuse to adapt to their new environment.

Strategy is no longer a game of chess played by a few decision-makers isolated in their ivory tower. We can't think only planning and execution, but need to understand how information flows. Hierarchy fails in digital age, not because it is illegitimate, but because it is slow and the world has become fast!
