Britain's trade deficit as worrying as its budget deficit

Geoff Riley's insight:

A large and persistent trade deficit is symptomatic of imbalances in our economy and structural supply-side problems. A good update blog on the trade gap.

Network Rail plans £38bn investment

Network Rail plans £38bn investment | Developments in the UK Economy | Scoop.it
Geoff Riley's insight:

Along with other investment projects, consider the possible multiplier effects of the £38bn injection of demand. Think too about the longer term benefits of increasing the capacity and reliability of the rail network always providing that the investment has been subject to a rigorous cost-benefit analysis.

Housebuilders boosted as Osborne extends Help to Buy - FT.com

The government's Help to Buy subsidy is designed to kick-start new house-building but the rate of new home construction remains well below the recent 2006 peak.
