Every now and then, it’s good to go back to square one. To revisit the baseline, if you like. And for me, that’s an immaculate classic motorcycle captured by a skilled photographer. Like this matching-numbers 1973 Ducati 750 Sport.

The Gift - perfect Ducati story for Labor Day | Ducati.net

The Gift - perfect Ducati story for Labor Day | Ducati.net | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

“Labor Day is a holiday observed that celebrates the economic and social contributions of workers, who sometimes use that power to give a good guy what he deserves” (loosely borrowed from Wikipedia)

Things weren’t working out the way he had planned. With a baby on the way, the due date looming, and no steady job in sight, Darin Fowler was facing some tough choices and it was pretty clear the only way out was to sell his Ducati Monster. He’d tried everything but when the local Ducati dealer offered to buy it outright he saw it was a favor he couldn’t pass up. The worst part was, like so many Ducati owners, the bike was a big part of his social life. He really loved being part of the Ducati family. Most of his friends were active in the local Ducati club, DesmOhio, and while it just wasn’t going to be the same without it, life was moving forward and maybe it was time to leave that part behind. So Darin man’d up, took the bike to Northern Ohio Ducati and tried hard not to look back. His friends weren’t helping much either, kept asking when he was getting another bike. Ninety days after he sold the Monster, now the proud father of a new baby daughter, the DesmOhio club President (and CycleCat owner), Chris Calovini, called him and said he’d found a cheap crashed 900 Supersport that had Darin’s name all over it and he had made a deal with the owner, who just wanted it out of his garage. Darin could pay him when he got the money. Darin couldn’t believe it. His reply? “Chris, I got laid off today”.

Ductalk Editors Note- Follow Nathan's ongoing, beautifully photographed and documented adventures thru his posts like this to the DucatiCommunity.com

And so, I am back in north Idaho and the trip is officially over, but I'll be updating the rest of the journey here. I'm sure you all recognize the lead picture...yup, the giant sequoias of northern California. Once I crossed over from Oregon the landscape really did begin to change...the coast became less rugged, the tress got bigger, and the gas wayyyy more expensive. Even still, that is part of the beauty of a journey; it forces you to see things with your own eyes and not just take some magazine's or talking head's word for it. Another thing that I've come to realize over the thousands of miles of adventuring is that most people don't know what they're talking about. What do I mean by this? Well, most people have never ridden a motorcycle in their lives, so when you ask how far some place is or how the weather is they seem to automatically assume that you're a 5 year-old on a tricycle who's wandered away from home. I can't count how many times I've heard, "oh, the weather is too bad for you there." or "you wouldn't go there on a motorcycle." Reallllly....I've just gotten to the point where I nod, and smile, and silently wish them the blissfully bored life that they've embraced.
So, back out the open road I stopped to take a few of the pics above...#2 was awesome fish and chips at a little place called the Crazy Norwegian in little Port Orford, OR, and by little, well, have a look at pics #2&3, that was the whole town! #4 beach riding, of course! #5 apparently they traveled from Minnesota #10 was a coffee shop/hot tub/sauna in Arcata, CA. Such an awesome little place! #12 a riverbed, of course! #14 "The Idea of Letting Go"

4th Annual Ducati TT / F1 Symposium - September 1st - 4th, 2012 - loudbike

4th Annual Ducati TT / F1 Symposium - September 1st - 4th, 2012 - loudbike | Desmopro News | Scoop.it
This year, we decided to take the event to the racetrack (where it belongs) and thanks to Mike Weber's efforts, we're dove-tailed into 4 days of racing and track time at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

If you saw the TT & F1 display at the Ducstock event last year, you got a taste of the amazing machines that came out of NCR and Ducati in the 80s. If you didn't, next weekend's your chance to get up close and personal with the first true factory racers that came out of Ducati and watch them in action in the new P89 class specifically designed for the 650 and 750 twins that filled out the grids back in the day.

First hosted by Lou Saif in his Queens, NY shop, the TT & F1 Symposium is a loosely organised and laid-back affair that has begun the attract some of the most impressive examples of the breed and attendees from all over the world. This year, we decided to take the event to the racetrack (where it belongs) and thanks to Mike Weber's efforts, we're dove-tailed into 4 days of racing and track time at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The guest of Honor will be none other than Englishman Pat Slinn, championship winning race engineer for Mike Hailwood and Tony Rutter.

Rossi Talks Yamaha, Stoner Talks Rossi | Cycle News

Rossi Talks Yamaha, Stoner Talks Rossi | Cycle News | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

SPEEDWAY, IN, AUG 16 - Ducati Marlboro's Valentino Rossi was always going to be the center of attention at the pre-race news conference for the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. But a widely circulated "interview" with world champion Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda) nearly stole the spotlight.

In an interview most widely seen on the website of England's Motorcycle News, Stoner was harsh in his criticism of both Rossi and crew chief Jeremy Burgess, and their inability to make the Ducati a proven race winner. Stoner didn't deny having made the comments, but he quickly pointed out that they weren't made en masse, as presented.

IRIS Nights Lecture Series | Guy Webster

IRIS Nights Lecture Series | Guy Webster | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Many of you know of Guy Webster, because he has an excellent motorcycle collection in Ojai CA and has been really generous with his bikes over the years - lending them to shows and exhibits like the Art of the Motorcycle.  But what he is REALLY famous for is his photography and tomorrow there is a rare opportunity to hear him speak on the topic.

"One of the early innovators of rock and roll photography, Guy Webster has spanned the worlds of music, film and politics in his 50-year career. His hundreds of album covers have included the Rolling Stones, the Mamas and the Papas, the Beach Boys, the Doors and Simon & Garfunkel.

Photographer for the infamous Monterey Pop Concert his images were used for the festival booklet and include concert photos of Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who and many others.  He has photographed film legends such as Rita Hayworth, Dean Martin and Bob Hope as well as countless luminaries and celebrities including Igor Stravinsky, Allen Ginsburg and Truman Capote for hundreds of worldwide magazines."

Tomorrow at 9:29am Pacific Time 150 tickets will be given away to his Sept 13th Los Angeles lecture.  They will go fast (like a rock star concert because Guy really IS like that).

We thought we would share this with the Ducati Community because while so many of us know Guy in the Motorcycle world, he rarely speaks of the photos and when he does the stories are, well, just incredible I can assure you......

To get tickets go to this link: http://iris0913.eventbrite.com/

If you will be in LA on Sept 13th, the show is at:

2000 Avenue of the Stars
Suite 10

‘Jack Ryan’ First Look: Chris Pine Rides a Ducati | screencrush.com

‘Jack Ryan’ First Look: Chris Pine Rides a Ducati | screencrush.com | Desmopro News | Scoop.it
Chris Pine is in the process of rebooting his second high-profile character for Paramount Pictures, and 2013 is most likely the year he becomes a household name. We’ll see him reprise the role of Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Trek 2‘ in May, while next winter brings us Pine take on Jack Ryan in, well, ‘ Jack Ryan.’ If you were wondering what the latter character will look like, today’s your lucky day, as the first image of Pine-as-Ryan has been revealed.

As you can see from said image (via ComingSoon.net), production has officially begun on ‘Jack Ryan,’ which will tell the origin story of the fictional CIA operative. Not a whole lot to take away from this picture, other than shooting is taking place in Manhattan (South Street Seaport, it appears) and Jack has expensive taste in motorcycles – that’s a Ducati, baby....

Desmo-why's….ENGLISH VERSION | Giorgio Manziana | motocorse.com

Desmo-why's….ENGLISH VERSION | Giorgio Manziana | motocorse.com | Desmopro News | Scoop.it
Desmo-why's….

I have always tried to follow the evolution of Ducati motoGP with focus on news not of public domain on the web or in the press, most often predicting successive development steps based on problems encountered. I am not saying that what Filippo Preziosi said during testing in Jerez, “Manziana, you're the only one to have understood us”, authorises me to claim expertise, but rather that I am a passionate and keen observer. I am not in a position to judge the work created by an engineer considered by many to be the genius of motoGP a few years ago, a reputation earned himself by his original concept of motorcycle different to the general standards of the time, and who, after the interview with Furusawa, is now considered in the collective imagination of many to be like a child in kindergarten that hangs from the lips of the teacher.

For Sale | 1979 Ducati SuperSport | eBay | Desmopro News | Scoop.it
For sale is my 1979 classic Ducati 900 Super Sport (R).

The bike was build in 1979 straight from the crate by Dutch Ducati specialist Biggelaar in the town of Oirschot.

In total 5 of these bikes were build, 3 for racing and 2 for road use, this is one of those 2.

In 2008 the bike returned to Biggelaar for a complete restoration, its was then displayed at their 40 years celebration as a eyecatcher.

After restoration I have just driven it once for 25 km so it needs to be run in still now.

Ducstock 2012 and Motogiro South at Barbers Vintage Festival | Ducati.net

Ducstock 2012 and Motogiro South at Barbers Vintage Festival | Ducati.net | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Join us for our 2nd annual Ducati.net Ducstock get together during the 2012 Barber’s Vintage Festival. Here’s what we have in the planning:

Event dates: October 11th – 14th, 2012

Location: Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham, Alabama

Triumph is the focused brand this year at Barbers Vintage Festival so Ducstock II is taking a different approach, and focusing on the camaraderie and riding. We recognize that it’s pretty hard to top a good group of Ducati people getting together to ride, tell stories and drink cold beverages and we are not inclined to mess with that time honored formula. We decided to start with an epic ride. We can’t think of ANYTHING more fun to ride in than an Italian Motogiro style event so we are kicking off the weekend with a great one – Motogiro South

Valentino Rossi's crew chief Jerry Burgess unsure if he'll rejoin Yamaha | Autosport.com

Valentino Rossi's crew chief Jerry Burgess unsure if he'll rejoin Yamaha | Autosport.com | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

"I would have liked to finish the job [at Ducati]. We aren't far off, perhaps we lack only 1 per cent. In these two years Ducati has learned a lot, and for me it is disappointing to be unable to finish," said Burgess."

Valentino Rossi's long-time crew chief Jeremy Burgess says he has yet to decide whether he will follow the Italian across to Yamaha for the 2013 MotoGP season.

Burgess, who previously achieved great success with Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan, began working with Rossi at Honda and then followed him to Yamaha and then Ducati - although it had been uncertain whether he would make the latter switch at the time.

The Australian says he's been asked whether he will move across yet, but hasn't reached a resolution for himself anyway should the question come.

Wolfgang Dürheimer Interview: Joining Audi and the Future of Bentley and Bugatti | Car and Driver.com | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

"I understand that (Audi CEO) Rupert Stadler expects me to take a close look at Ducati’s technologies."

In a few weeks, Bentley and Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer will be leaving for Ingolstadt, where he will head Audi’s research and development and lead the VW Group’s motorsports activities. At Audi, he will deal closely with motorcycle maker Ducati; a fitting job, as he earned his stripes at BMW’s motorcycle division before he became head of Porsche’s research and development. Two years ago, following a shakeup in VW Group management, he left for Crewe, England, to head Bentley and Bugatti. We recently sat down with Dürheimer to discuss the future of Bentley’s powertrains, the progress of the Bugatti Galibier, and his new responsibilities with Ducati and VW Group motorsports.
