This year Ducati was the featured marque and the theme was F1's and the derivitives from the F1 - Montjuich, Laguna Seca, Santamonica and the TT2 and TT1. The text is in Dutch but the photos speak for the depth and quality of the event and the Ducati display. The Ducati museum in Bologna was also present with a large tent where a dozen bikes in the race history of the brand were exhibited. All V-twins, starting with a replica of the 750 racer (#16) which Paul Smart in 1972 the 200 miles from Imola won. Next up was the winner of the 24 Hours of Montjuich of 1975 (# 9) with its narrowed lower crankcase for extra ground clearance, and equipped with lights for night stages. The list of racers was closed by a team of 750SS Spaggiari and an NCR endurance racer. On the other side of the tent stood the TT1 and TT2 F1 which Marco Lucchinelli won the Battle Of The Twins race at Daytona in 1986. The four models were represented by 888, 916 and 999

Nicky Hayden on Sunday night’s edition of SpeedTV’s Wind Tunnel, when asked by Dave Despain what his plan was for next year: “For me personally, uh, things are looking good. You know I love it at Ducati, it’s really uh, I really enjoy my team, I’ve got a good group of guys, so we don’t have anything final yet but we’re quite far in uh, some negotiations and really there’s not, uh, we’re not too far apart so I’m hoping that uh, you know, during the summer break after Laguna we have two weeks off before Indy and uh, I hope that we can have an agreement there.... I thought my visit to the Museo Morbidelli in Pesaro, Italy would be the usual motor-museum thing; bored receptionist to greet you, a wander around looking between bike and the corresponding information card stuck on wall, bike, card, bike, card, bike, card. This visit however, was going to be a little bit different... Instead of a bored receptionist, the first person I met was the man himself, Giancarlo Morbidelli, and he wasn't bored at all, he was attempting to mow the front lawn with an uncooperative electric mower. I suggested he give up on the mower and try a pair of scissors but the joke didn't translate very well into Italian and he looked at me like I was 'special'. We soon hit it off though when he discovered I was an Australian with a girlfriend from Pesaro; later in the afternoon, when his friends dropped by for a chat (including Marco Benelli of Motobi) he had great fun in introducing me as the Australian who’d come to steal their women! Welcome to the exciting first issue of Performance, our new online magazine that we hope will entertain and inform you about the wide world of Öhlins and the people that have made it the company it is today. Öhlins is in an exciting time today with an unprecedented amount of racing activities around the world, new technological breakthroughs in many areas and expansion and growth into many different parts of the world. A lot has happened since we started this journey back in the 70's. In fact we have so many stories to tell from around the world, inside the factory, on two and four wheels (and skis!) that the first job has been to try and decide what will make this first edition! Periodically, (and every race weekend lately) Valentino Rossi has tweeted a selection of photographs that he likes from a group his preferred photographers. These are photos that portray him in the light he chooses and tend to be beautiful and we think often somewhat romantic – small dreamy images at a distance, pensive shots in the garage, happy shots, clowning around shots – he posts whatever appeals to him. Having recently experienced the frenzy of photographers that happens whenever Valentino Rossi shows his face we can appreciate the level of skill a photographer must have to shoot in these conditions and earn this sort of access. These photographers – Stefano Taglioni, Callo Albanese, Gigi Soldano and Tino Martino are at the top of the game.

Audi CEO addresses Ducati workforce as Antitrust Commission prepare to complete process Borgo Panigale (Bologna) Mr. Rupert Stadler, CEO of AUDI AG, accompanied by Mr.Thomas Sigi, responsible for AUDI AG Human Resources, visited the Ducati factory in Borgo Panigale , Bologna, Italy today, received by Ducati’s President and CEO, Gabriele Del Torchio and Ducati Management. After additional meetings with local RSU (Rappresentanza Sindacale Unitaria) union representatives, Mr. Stadler addressed the entire Ducati workforce of approximately 1000 people with a motivational speech that underlined Audi’s passion for the iconic Italian motorcycle manufacturer. A woman was killed after a British motorbiker ploughed into a crowd of fans watching a nostalgic motorbike rally on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Fuschertörl, Austria on Saturday. The British Ducati driver according to local police lost control of his bike in a left curve and hit a pavement before ploughing into a group of fans watching the race. 31-year-old Christina S. from Lower Austria died at the scene. Her father and another fan were also hit but escaped with minor injuries. The motorbiker who was competing for the Glockner Trophy was propelled thirty metres through the air before landing in a serious condition. More HERE
This is a truly rare bike: a 1984 MHR color scheme Ducati Pantah 650. By the way MHR = Mike Hailwood Replica (see chap below): The Pantah is an important version in Ducati’s history as it represent the ancestor of the commonly know Ducati L2 motors with the cams driven by belt. The upgraded 650 engine (up to 1983 it was 600cc) was needed for the homologation of the TT racer with which it shared the motor’s 61.5 mm stroke. For more click HERE

The odometer spins easily through everyday life, accumulating tens of thousands of clicks on workaday commutes and grocery store runs. In contrast, motorcycle journeys are personal mileage, forging more intimate connections between man, machine, and road. They remind us of who we are, and during the best of rides, who we will become. This particular thousand-mile ride unfolded in Tuscany aboard a definitively Italian motorcycle over the course of a week. The excursion was organized and executed by Edelweiss Bike Travel, the Austrian outfit whose 30 years in the touring business has previously focused on BMWs and Harley-Davidsons. The inaugural run for the Ducati/Edelweiss collaboration kicked off in Bologna. Known as The Red City for its crimson-hued roofs, Bologna is also a metaphorically apt place to begin a motorcycle adventure. Its labyrinthine colonnades radiate from a central wheel, a hub - not to mention it is also home to the manufacturer's global headquarters, where every Ducati is born before being shipped to dealerships around the world. Pramac Racing Team’s Héctor Barberá put in a great effort during qualifying for the Gran Premio d’Italia TIM at Mugello today, as he put his satellite Desmosedici third on the grid for the first time in his premier-class career. The Spanish rider was ecstatic with his performance at the Tuscan track: "It's the first time I’m on the front row and I'm very happy because this year we have four Yamahas and four Hondas on the grid that are very difficult to beat. And our bike is not official; it’s a satellite machine. But the team is at a very high level and has worked very well this weekend. I am very satisfied." The Valencian rider did his best lap today without sticking to the rear wheel of another rider, and has taken the opportunity to silence some of his rivals, who accuse him of always looking to benefit from the slipstream of others. "The riders that have spoken out have winning bikes, yet I have a bike that has had no changes since I got it last November. It has never evolved," Barberá pointed out. More HERE
Remember the Ducati 851? It came out in 1987 and blitzed the world of sportsbikes like few other machines have ever managed to. Desmoquattro V-Twin, liquid-cooling, fuel-injection, four-valve cylinder heads, 95bhp and a top speed of about 240km/h made the bike a bit special 25 years ago and that’s the way it remains today, despite the fact that it probably requires motorcycle breakdown cover more than the Panigale does!
The 851 and its various avatars (851 SP, 888 and 888 SP) were produced from 1987 to 1993 and the bike won three World Superbikes championships – with Raymond Roche in 1990 and with Doug Polen in 1991 and 1992. By 1993, the Ducati 888 had twin fuel injectors per cylinder, power was up to 125bhp and the bike had the best bits that companies like Termignoni, Brembo and Ohlins were making back then.
