Ducati Scrambler | Coming Soon - Motorcyclist Magazine | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Ducati has lately done an impressive job penetrating new market segments with sophisticated (and expensive) models like the Multistrada and Diavel. The Italian manufacturer’s next major growth strategy, however, will likely target the opposite end of the price and performance spectrum with a new generation of inexpensive and accessible Scramblers.

Brickyard 400 still produces revenue for IMS but MotoGP could be on borrowed time | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

NASCAR’s Brickyard 400 weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will continue for years to come. The MotoGP race might not.

That’s the word from first-year Hulman & Co. CEO Mark Miles, whose job it is to deliver the best return on investment for the owners of the company that employs him. Whether that includes the motorcycleevent beyond this year’s Aug. 16-18 event remains to be seen.

Miles said the contract runs through 2014, but IMS has a brief window after this year’s event to opt out.

Motorcyclist nabbed after naked "Harlem Shake" Ducati 848 joyride in Chiang Mai video goes viral

Motorcyclist nabbed after naked "Harlem Shake" Ducati 848 joyride in Chiang Mai video goes viral | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

A man who brazenly rode a motorcycle through downtown Chiang Mai while naked has been arrested after detectives were alerted to his antics through a video clip on a social media network.

It took five hours for police to swoop on the man after the clip of his raunchy romp appeared on the web yesterday morning. Police arrested Jetpol Chanboontawee, 24, and charged him with committing a lewd act.

Police Region 5 deputy chief Chamnan Ruodreaw said officers launched an investigation into the matter after receiving complaints from people who had viewed Mr Jetpol's clip.

Pol Maj Gen Chamnan said police traced the IP address of the person who first posted the clip. That person then identified Mr Jetpol as the naked motorcycle rider.

He was doing the Harlem Shake. Really. You can't make this stuff up.....

Vicki Smith for Ducati.net's comment, May 29, 11:55 AM
The actual video is down but I did come across a link of the police interrogation. The kid is there with all his friends, he's at a table with a big blue microphone laying on the table, behind him are police and guys that look like the rest of his crew. They are going on and on in Thai but everybody is having trouble keeping a straight face, especially the kid. Based on the fine I don't think anybody see's it as a huge thing. If I rode naked across Chaing Mai doing the Harlem Shake, in return for a fine of $33 I'd be laughing too. Just saying.

The Grand Australian Roadtrip : Motographing 23,000 kms on a Ducati

The Grand Australian Roadtrip : Motographing 23,000 kms on a Ducati | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

The Grand Australian Roadtrip, put very simply and honestly, is a ride celebrating the innate desire that we riders have to ride a motorcycle on open highways under a blue sky. About having that freedom to stop when we want, where we want. The feeling of opening the helmet lid to let the cool wind hit your face and the scent of the pines invigorate you. That’s what it is, this road-trip. That and because it is cool to think you are MadMax for 23,000 kms! If you dont know who that is, read here!

For Charity? No sir. I believe that charity is a personal thing; I will do good to feel good. I will not to do good to be judged as a good person by my audience. I also do not believe in casting what my underlining objective of the trip is within an altruistic cocoon. And this is not to demean the plethora of good motorcyclists who ride for charity. My best wishes to them, and Godspeed.

But then there’s much more to this road-trip beyond the basic instinct of riding and taking corners on a motorcycle. It is a personal challenge, like all my previous road-trips have been, only tougher. The challenge is to be on the road for days at end. The challenge is to find my breaking point as I ride, take photos, take videos, blog, update social media, meet the expectations of sponsors, of my audience, of friends and family, and to manage my ‘office’ back home in Delhi (the xBhp HQ), which by itself is one of its kind in India where many a motorcycling ideas, events and motives have taken birth.

I will try to produce the best photos I can, posting them regularly on the blogs of this website. And posting them on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and 500px. I will also be hopefully Instagraming a bit....

Abandoned Ducati Prototype Engines - Motorcyclist Magazine

Abandoned Ducati Prototype Engines - Motorcyclist Magazine | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Much like Harley-Davidson and Moto Guzzi, Ducati is associated with a single engine design—its signature 90 degree “L-twin.” Save for the V-four-powered MotoGP racebikes, it’s been since the ultra-rare, race-only Supermono single was discontinued in 1995 that the Italian firm has produced anything other than desmodromic-valved V-twins. But this wasn’t always the case. For the three decades prior to 1985, the year Cagiva bought Ducati and decided to focus almost exclusively on the V-twin layout, the company also produced a variety of singles and parallel twins, while the testing department experimented with a wild diversity of engine configurations and designs—most of which have been lost to history and not even displayed in Ducati’s factory museum.

Vincent Around America | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

My buddy Burt Welleford is taking a journey around the country on his third-generation Vincent Black Shadow. He is doing this to raise awareness for The Shriners Hospitals for Children, which provide FREE healthcare services to children across North America. In addition to the fact that their goal is helping children, he chose to support them because they are able to spend 91% of all donations on actual services.

His route will take him west from Atlanta, GA and Clockwise around the borders of the lower 48 states of the U.S., ending back in Atlanta. With a trip like that he needed more storage than his bike could provide. We donated our services to Burt by fixing up his bike and adding some storage options for him.

If you are near the edge of the country, rider or not, join him along the way. We will be keeping up with him here and you can go to his site vincentaroundamerica.com to follow his trip.

The Ducati scrambler Ducati doesnt make

By Alan Cathcart | 6/12/2013 11:02 AM

For the past quarter of a century Umberto Borile has labored to create a series of single-cylinder streetbikes bearing his name, powered by his own air-cooled single-cam four-valve engine based on the World Championship- winning 500cc GM Speedway motor. Until recently, Umberto effectively constructed each handmade example himself in his one-man workshop, which resulted in expensive prices for what were basically freshly minted masterpieces. No two Borile bikes have been the same.

But now the Moto Borile marque, which made its debut in 1988, has been restructured on a more commercial basis, with Umberto entering into 50/50 partnership with the Bassi family at the end of 2010 to form a new company - Umberto Borile & Co....

A Beginners Guide To Motorcycle Gear - RideApart

A Beginners Guide To Motorcycle Gear - RideApart | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Just getting started riding motorcycles? Here’s everything you need to know about riding gear — helmets, jackets, gloves, boots and such — in one digestible package.

One of the most frequent enquiries we get here at RideApart isn’t about which motorcycle to buy or how to learn to ride, but what gear to buy and wear once you’ve accomplished all that. Here’s the info you need to make smart decisions, to be more comfortable, safer and, hopefully, save some money in the process.

Why You Need Good Gear
The fastest human in the world is Ussain Bolt. During the 100 meter sprint, he peaks at 27.78mph. If he falls going that speed, he’ll likely sustain serious injury. The human body simply didn’t evolve to go any faster, which is why even falling off a horse (Guinness World Record top speed: 43.97mph) can lead to death.

Ducati, BMW, Harley rank highest in resale value | latimes.com | Desmopro News | Scoop.it
The hottest motorcycles on the road don't come cheap. But some of the best of them keep their value after you put them on the road. Bikes made by Harley-Davidson , BMW, and Ducati, in fact, seem to hold their MSRP value better than any others.
Vicki Smith for Ducati.net's curator insight, June 6, 4:48 PM

"The Ducati GT1000, according to Kelley's study of the model year 2010, had a best-in-show retention rate of 97% -- meaning it lost only 3% of its MSRP value -- after three years in service. Its 2008 model had a 90% retention rate after five years."

This weekend Michele Pirro will compete in the Mugello MotoGP on the “Lab” bike, (seemingly entered for the purposes of gathering data during the race weekend) and Ben Spies will return to competition while still mending from a shoulder injury. It reminded me of a similar situation almost 10 years ago.

It’s been so long since Ducati has had a supported AMA team that some people might not know that for quite a few years, on most AMA weekends Paolo Ciabatti and Davide Tardozi made the 10 hour trip as part of a variety of AMA team efforts over the years, splitting their time and efforts between the SBK team and the AMA one....

But let’s think seriously here for a second, if you’re going to really pick a place to visit as the “Land of Motors”, the Mecca of Automobiles, are you going to prefer to book a flight to cold, industrial Detroit, or to the warm foothills of the Italian motor Valley, through Italy’s Emilia Romagna region, and trek through the Apennine mountains?
