CHECA RETURNS TO THE PODIUM AT PORTIMAO

CHECA RETURNS TO THE PODIUM AT PORTIMAO | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Another complicated race day for the Althea Racing team today at the ‘Autodromo Internacional do Algarve’.

In race 1 Carlos Checa rode a great race to take his first podium since Brno while Davide Giugliano was robbed of his chance to do well after a collision early on in the race forced him to retire. In the second of the day’s races Giugliano was once again unlucky, suffering from presumed tyre problems while Checa was able to bounce back after a technical issue in the early stages to cross the line fifth.
After two hot and sunny days the Superbike paddock awoke to heavy rain and poor visibility on the Portimao track. After only a fifteen minute warm-up, the riders had little time to prepare for racing in these conditions.

In Las Vegas, a gamble on BMW's Kompressor and McQueen's Husky - AutoWeek

In Las Vegas, a gamble on BMW's Kompressor and McQueen's Husky - AutoWeek | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

The anonymous Japanese collector was upset. The rare BMW Kompressor Rennsport, the finest pre-/postwar machine that he had listed, wasn't going for what he wanted. Five hundred thousand dollars he wanted. Half a million bucks! And that wasn't even the value at which the motorcycle had been appraised. The catalog had said “…all the way up to $600,000.” For a motorcycle to go for six figures was stratospherically rare; the last motorcycle that had sold for that much was a 1929 Brough-Superior SS100, one of only 69 made, the Rolls-Royce of motorcycles, only better. It had gone for $456,799. He must have known that. Yet his face was downturned, a mixture of ambivalence and veiled disappointment. The bids on his beloved machine were now stuck at $380,000. He expected higher. He expected the full six hundred. It'd be foolish for him to want any less.Read more: http://www.autoweek.com/article/20130123/carnews01/130119933#ixzz2IuzdoGRW

We love motorcycle auctions for the drama and spectacle. Here's a link to LOTS of photos from the three Vegas auctions last spring. Many Ducati's, some will surprise you. http://tinyurl.com/aglgrqn

The wheels are in motion and the music is cued up for MidAmerica Auctions’ 22nd Annual Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction and Races on Jan. 10-12, 2013, at the South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.
Vicki Smith for Ducati.net's insight:

We have attended this series of auctions (in the past there have been as many as three going on during the three day event) and have found it to be an event above and beyond the auction itself.  Lots of great bikes to see (and buy) and plenty of other gearheads to meet up with, it's a pop-up museum of sorts. Add to the mix that it's scheduled during the big yearly electronics industry convention CES so the world's media is on hand, Vegas is hopping and the people watching is superb....
