SPEEDWAY, IN, AUG 16 - Ducati Marlboro's Valentino Rossi was always going to be the center of attention at the pre-race news conference for the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. But a widely circulated "interview" with world champion Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda) nearly stole the spotlight.

In an interview most widely seen on the website of England's Motorcycle News, Stoner was harsh in his criticism of both Rossi and crew chief Jeremy Burgess, and their inability to make the Ducati a proven race winner. Stoner didn't deny having made the comments, but he quickly pointed out that they weren't made en masse, as presented.

20 years. Ponder that. The only motorcycles that have been in production that long are class defining, life changing machines. Sportster. Bonneville. Goldwing. Motorcycles that redefined riding and how we did it. And now the Ducati Monster is among them. Clearly something needed to happen that was a proper tip of the hat to a motorcycle like that so we decided to do what it does best, we just went for a ride. 
And what a ride it was, a three day road trip from Newport Beach to Carmel for the Quail Motorcycle Gathering. Along the way there were stops at Ducati Newport, Ducati Santa Barbara, Morro Bay, Big Sur and even a couple laps of Laguna Seca. Great roads, people food and riding all ending at the best motorcycle show America has to offer. Epic!

One of the nicest things about this Ducati is the fact the bike looks very clean and this adds major on the cool factor scale. The wiring has been cleverly and skillfully hidden under the wide Ducati 999 fuel tank, so there are no loose wires and cables.

 A closer look at the custom Ducati S4RS salt racer by Super Rat from Bellingham, WA. The bike ran in the 1000cc A-AG class. (AG is the modified gasoline class. In the rulebooks: "Unlimited design. You cannot use Superchargers and Turbochargers. Construction shall include a majority of motorcycle engine parts. However, you can use fuel injection. GASOLINE ONLY.) The major classes are M (Modified), P (Production), MPS (Modified Partial Streamlining), or A (Special Construction) class.

No, I am not confused, but you may be just by looking at all these pictures and realizing that they are from 2 different custom Ducatis. These bikes with the overall same appearance and paint job are the work of Yuri Shif, for me Europe’s custom builder with the wildest/most elegant/most beautifully executed ideas.
