Ducati Superbike Design by Steven Galpin

Ducati Superbike Design by Steven Galpin | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Recently Ducati.net posted a design study drawn by Steven Galpin, a young UK design school graduate. He approached us with his final year project which he had spent some time working on. He envisioned it as the Ultimate Ducati streetbike, and a tribute to Valentino Rossi to celebrate the end of his career.  His hope was that we might help him get his name out because he is seeking a job. To say it was a popular post would be an understatement. In just a few days the post has had almost 400,000 views and more than 3500 “shares”. In the process there were a lot of great questions posted seeking more information on the design, which once again, is a student drawing, not something penned by the manufacturer.  And while there might be some pretty great leaps of whimsy, it’s hard not to like the way he’s thinking…

Ducati 1199 Panigale Gets Clean Slate for Weight in WSBK | asphaltandrubber.com

Ducati 1199 Panigale Gets Clean Slate for Weight in WSBK | asphaltandrubber.com | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

World Superbike is expected to announce after the Magny-Cours round next week that the Ducati 1199 Panigale will not incur the same 6kg weight ballast penalty as the current Ducati 1098R Superbike. A part of WSBK’s fluidic formula for Superbike racing, World Superbike rules allow for the air intake to be restricted and weight ballast to be added to twin-cylinder motorcycles on an prescribed basis, to compensate for the 200cc displacement capacity advantage the twins have over the four-cylinder machines.

Faster and Faster | Battle of the Ages: Ducati 851 vs Ducati 1199 Panigale

Faster and Faster | Battle of the Ages: Ducati 851 vs Ducati 1199 Panigale | Desmopro News | Scoop.it

Remember the Ducati 851? It came out in 1987 and blitzed the world of sportsbikes like few other machines have ever managed to. Desmoquattro V-Twin, liquid-cooling, fuel-injection, four-valve cylinder heads, 95bhp and a top speed of about 240km/h made the bike a bit special 25 years ago and that’s the way it remains today, despite the fact that it probably requires motorcycle breakdown cover more than the Panigale does!

The 851 and its various avatars (851 SP, 888 and 888 SP) were produced from 1987 to 1993 and the bike won three World Superbikes championships – with Raymond Roche in 1990 and with Doug Polen in 1991 and 1992. By 1993, the Ducati 888 had twin fuel injectors per cylinder, power was up to 125bhp and the bike had the best bits that companies like Termignoni, Brembo and Ohlins were making back then.

Living with the Ducati Panigale | Telegraph

Living with the Ducati Panigale | Telegraph | Desmopro News | Scoop.it
What's it like to live with Ducati's latest road rocket, the Panigale, for a week's ordinary use?

We British are a funny lot when it comes to buying motorcycles. We'll love a new sports bike for lapping a foreign racetrack faster than its rivals, in the hands of someone we've never met, then buy it in order to whizz about as best we can on British roads.
There's nothing wrong with that if it gives us pleasure, and bikes do just that through their image, looks, sound and brand values as well as the how they feel and perform (while the ace in the pack is that even the most ordinary motorcycle is still a motorcycle and, by default, enjoyable).
However, with Ducati's Panigale superbike performing as well in showrooms as it has done in track tests, there's plenty of interest in how it copes with a trip to the supermarket, heavy traffic, a weekend away or carrying a passenger. So I borrowed one to subject it to a week of intense ordinariness.
