There was only one way to find out: pose as a company, and hire one of their designers myself. And best of all, it would only cost me $5.

So read on for an epic tale of lies, deception, stolen work, and crappy logos.

Heavens to Murgatroid, Evuuun! | Designer's Resources | Scoop.it
Mark Strozier's insight:

Can you name them all without googling?

This is a partial line-up of Hanna-Barbera's cartoon characters from the 1960's & 70's.

It's awe-inspiring to think of the production talent (and time) that went into these cartoons. 24 hand-drawn and hand-painted frames per second x 60 seconds x seven minutes (shorts - avg length) x 58 characters x number of episodes.

Those animators were slinging a lot of paint! Heavens to Murgatroid, Evuuun!

ps: I could name only six.

The ability to shoot outstanding video footage, is taking a giant leap forward going into 2015.

The specs on GoPro's new Hero 4 are jaw-dropping-- UltraHD 4k video at 30 frames per second?! 1080p HD video at 120 frames per second?! WiFi & Bluetooth all in a box that weighs about as much as a Snicker's bar and priced at only $500?!

Jaw appropriately dropped.

Along with the continually improving camera technologies, drone tech is keeping pace and it's giving cinematographers options for new perspectives that up until a year or two ago were imaginable only with CGI.

To get a sample of the creative options this combination offers filmmakers and cinematographers take a look at PlexiDrone's video: http://youtu.be/hROA-vOyId4 ;

Building a Usable Style Guide for New Design Projects

Building a Usable Style Guide for New Design Projects | Designer's Resources | Scoop.it
When you think of creativity it can be expressed in many ways. Ideally a creative idea should exist in some capacity before the creator visits reality town and starts break dancing into his concept in the middle of Main Street.
Mark Strozier's insight:

A style guide, even for small projects, gives your client an Instruction Manual of how your vision for their product/brand should be used. It clarifies collateral usage to maintain consistency of message.

It also benefits the designer. Helping to make sure the elements you are using will work together across different mediums.

Top 15 Most Used Cliche Images in Web Design vs. The Unicorn of Death

Top 15 Most Used Cliche Images in Web Design vs. The Unicorn of Death | Designer's Resources | Scoop.it
Does it ever happen to you when you looking on a site to have the impression that you saw a particular image somewhere else? I bet it does and I bet that I know what are those images.
Mark Strozier's insight:

This is a great article to introduce you to the Unicorn of Death. The UoD gets attention.

The UoD has nothing to do with the "Top 15 Most Used Cliche Images in Web Design", but if I used any of the images highlighted in the article you'd skip right past this post.

In good design there has to be something of value to put your attention in a chokehold, otherwise it's cheap decoration. Design cliché's are just that.

You can thank the folks who set the standards at microstock sites like iStock, Dreamstime et,al.

From experience, I've had images rejected because they were deemed "..not stock-worthy..." Considering the images that are stock-worthy, that's not such a bad thing.

Scalable Web Design - .SVG files coming into their own.

Scalable Web Design - .SVG files coming into their own. | Designer's Resources | Scoop.it
Scalable Web Design is a workflow for designing websites that scale to any pixel density, from Apple retina displays to smart watches and 4k televisions.
Mark Strozier's insight:

Out in the wild for years,.SVG files (scalable vector graphics) are getting used a lot more now in web design. The "scalable" part helps when you're design a responsive website. The graphics look great across all platforms-- including Retina Displays. The images are resolution and platform independent and due to the nature of the file, the design will maintain it's image integrity even if you enlarge it to the size of Cuba.

Looks like all the hundreds & hundreds (possibly a few thousand) hours I spent learning & working with programs like ~cough~ CorelDraw ~cough~ ~cough~, and Adobe Illustrator are finally paying off!
