How to be a Better Designer

How to be a Better Designer | Designer's Resources | Scoop.it
The job of a designer isn’t an easy one. You must assess unfamiliar situations, achieve insight, and use what you’ve learned to synthesize design solutions. Additionally, you must lead clients through a process that might seem foreign to them.
Mark Strozier's insight:

This guy nails it!

"...designers aren’t supposed to be the star of the show. They are backstage workers whose presence should go unknown in the work they produce. Your politics, voice, and creative tendencies all have to take a backseat to your client’s needs."

Every day we designers meet new clients which brings along new challenges , I think a designer should be so flexible in his/ or her way of designing what we should keep in mind is the clients satisfaction if the clients is satisfied  We are satisfied too we can't impose our own ideas on people we are facilitators and we facilitate people for their needs.

I'm redeveloping my company's site and the hardest part isn't what to say or show... The really hard part is what NOT to show and what NOT to say.  I've done a couple of thousand design projects and 10s of thousands of photos, dozens of videos, etc. etc.

The hardest part is distilling it down to what's truly good vs what I *think* is good.

Top 15 Most Used Cliche Images in Web Design vs. The Unicorn of Death

Top 15 Most Used Cliche Images in Web Design vs. The Unicorn of Death | Designer's Resources | Scoop.it
Does it ever happen to you when you looking on a site to have the impression that you saw a particular image somewhere else? I bet it does and I bet that I know what are those images.
Mark Strozier's insight:

This is a great article to introduce you to the Unicorn of Death. The UoD gets attention.

The UoD has nothing to do with the "Top 15 Most Used Cliche Images in Web Design", but if I used any of the images highlighted in the article you'd skip right past this post.

In good design there has to be something of value to put your attention in a chokehold, otherwise it's cheap decoration. Design cliché's are just that.

You can thank the folks who set the standards at microstock sites like iStock, Dreamstime et,al.

From experience, I've had images rejected because they were deemed "..not stock-worthy..." Considering the images that are stock-worthy, that's not such a bad thing.

Scalable Web Design - .SVG files coming into their own.

Scalable Web Design - .SVG files coming into their own. | Designer's Resources | Scoop.it
Scalable Web Design is a workflow for designing websites that scale to any pixel density, from Apple retina displays to smart watches and 4k televisions.
Mark Strozier's insight:

Out in the wild for years,.SVG files (scalable vector graphics) are getting used a lot more now in web design. The "scalable" part helps when you're design a responsive website. The graphics look great across all platforms-- including Retina Displays. The images are resolution and platform independent and due to the nature of the file, the design will maintain it's image integrity even if you enlarge it to the size of Cuba.

Looks like all the hundreds & hundreds (possibly a few thousand) hours I spent learning & working with programs like ~cough~ CorelDraw ~cough~ ~cough~, and Adobe Illustrator are finally paying off!
