271 Years Before Pantone, an Artist Mixed and Described Every Color Imaginable in an 800-Page Book | Design Web, online marketing | Scoop.it
In 1692 an artist known only as "A. Boogert" sat down to write a book in Dutch about mixing watercolors. Not only would he begin the book with a bit about the use of color in painting, but would go on to explain how to create certain hues and change the tone by adding one, two,

Eye Tracking 101: How Your Eyes Move on a Website

Eye Tracking 101: How Your Eyes Move on a Website | Design Web, online marketing | Scoop.it

Engage website visitors better by designing your site to match how people's eyes move on the page. Here are some surprising eye tracking stats to help.

Putting together a great looking website is a great start, but it is just a start.

True web design requires you to venture beyond the aesthetic and into the worlds of User Experience and Conversion Rate Optimization.

Knowing how the viewers of your site really see it can help to shine light on new and/or missed opportunities within your current design. It may also bring out the need for new elements or changes.

While there are plenty of options for improving CRO, eye tracking analysis provides some of the most useful information for optimizing your biggest digital marketing asset, your website.

A good design will catch people’s eye, but a great design will keep people on your site and get them engaged with your content. And while you shouldn’tunderestimate the power of good copy, your design is what people notice first.

We teamed up with our friends over at Single Grain to put together the infographic below in hopes that it will help everyone get a better, basic understanding of what eye tracking is and what it can do.

Learning By Exploring, Organizing and Curating a Body of Information: Curatr

Robin Good: Curatr, an elearning platform built upon the idea of discovery through the curation and sense-making of existing information, has just released an updated version of its platform which you can check out here: http://www.curatr.co.uk/index2.php ;

Live demo: http://www.curatr.co.uk/index2.php?view=demo

Curatr allows professional trainers, experts, and teachers, as much as students to organize and curate information for the purpose of learning.

What I like very much is the Curatr promotional video, which says lots of true things about education and about the way we should carry it out in the future. The next-button-robot approach to information memorization needs to be replaced with a new approach: learning to understand how learners construct knowledge.

Curatr is about the construction of the scaffolding that allows people to learn and to find the resources that should help them best learn what they are interested into.

Promising. Insightful. 8/10

Evolution of Web Design and Usability over the Coming Years

Evolution of Web Design and Usability over the Coming Years | Design Web, online marketing | Scoop.it

With HTML5 and CSS3, along with other advancements, the internet is changing, and is doing so quite rapidly. Since things change so quickly they also fade away, based on what designers like, and the trends that people are responding to online, are indicators of what might happen next. So, the main question is where are we standing right now, and what are the future trends we are likely to see?

Responsive Web Design: Is It a Magic Bullet or a Conversion Killer? - MP Fix Daily

Responsive Web Design: Is It a Magic Bullet or a Conversion Killer? - MP Fix Daily | Design Web, online marketing | Scoop.it
To hear marketers discuss the Responsive Web Design approach to mobile, you'd think it's the magic bullet for conversions. But the approach has its flaws. Here's a look at a few of them.

Key excerpt...

When creating a website with the desktop in mind first, developers are less worried about page load times since the average desktop computer has access to speedy broadband connections, more processing, and more RAM than a mobile device. But when users access a responsive website on their mobile device, they are downloading a full desktop site worth of content on a smaller device screen that pales in comparison to the desktop’s much faster specs. Though not having to update content in two places like you would have to with an M-Dot approach, you have to be more speculative of your load time in relation to your content.

Another significant hurdle is design. With M-Dot, you have the luxury to custom design the mobile site experience to your heart’s content. With the responsive approach, you have to design your website for the desktop, the tablet, and the smartphone holistically. You have to design with the foresight of what the navigation, for example, will look like when the resolution is scaled down or up.

Natraj's curator insight, June 7, 2013 6:45 AM

Still, apparently we have UX Strategy as a definite split against Simple usability or interface solution which is tactical way of solving problems - still called to be UI design, since UX - eXperiences are strategical way of implementing solution. Strategy is tied with business engine [going skin deep of business revenue and marketing concepts], which really dives deep into research, its not superficial. UX design on other hand can take both ends of the spectrum - tactical & strategical. Now product companies really look it strategically since all your design essentially is a revenue game-changer! Finding the problem [May also said, Touchpoints] and solving it through design is more of UX Strategy where Business and design embedded pretty heavily.
