Don’t Get Caught Short, and The Top 11 Marketing Technology Articles Curated Friday, 2/21/14

Don’t Get Caught Short, and The Top 11 Marketing Technology Articles Curated Friday, 2/21/14 | Design Thinking | Scoop.it

Things are improving a bit, not great, but improving. And the marketing budget is expanding a bit. So I think it’s fair to say that times are decent right now, and looking up.

And spending on marketing technology is going up, significantly. Wouldn’t call it a gold rush, but the Y2Y even Q2Q is pretty damn good. However, as the technology settles in, very few marketers are leveraging all the functionality provided by these newly acquired technologies.

And that’s not good. Here’s why.

Economies are cyclical, and you can be damn sure that there’s a downturn in your future. We don’t know when, but it will happen. And you don’t want it to occur without every bit of functionality within your marketing technology investment exploited. If you go in to a downturn leaving functionality on the table, you’re in trouble, as management will look hard at expenditures, capital investments and ROI, and start to cut underperforming assets.

You want that engine humming on all cylinders so that you are getting the most out of your investment, so much so that you can ride out the bad times. You definitely don’t want to get caught with your pants down.

Marketing Technology…NOW!
