Why We Use Social Media in Our Personal Lives But Not for Work

Why We Use Social Media in Our Personal Lives But Not for Work | Design & Social Media | Scoop.it
"We've spent a fortune on collaborative technology, but no one is using it ... or if they are, it's for purely social, non-productive activities." Sound familiar? It's a lament I've heard many times from organizations over the past several years.

Answers to 43 Questions About Search, Social, Content, Conversions and More

Answers to 43 Questions About Search, Social, Content, Conversions and More | Design & Social Media | Scoop.it

A great post about various subject as: SEO, Content Management, Conversions and a lot more. Very interesting. [note Martin Gysler]

I was clearly under-prepared for the amazing responses. In order to tackle such a magnitude of great questions, I'm giving myself some rules for replies.

If I don't have a good answer, I won't tackle the question. For example, Nathaniel Deal asked a good one on .NET viewstates impacting SEO, and while I'd love to reply, I don't know enough about them to provide solid suggestions. No answer can be longer than two paragraphs (plus maybe an explanatory image/graphic). Everyone who asked a great question gets their tweet embedded in this post (using Twitter's nice, new embed functionality), which also gives a spiffy followed link to their tweet. Where possible, I'll provide links to content for more detail so those who are particularly interested can follow up.

Let's get started!

HI Martin.
Thanks for sharing.
I really like the new Twitter embed feature. Unfortunately, I must note that it does not work well for text-to-speech because It constantly repeats the original tweet. Tiny flaw. More importantly, there is some great wisdom in this articles.

Hey, Do you know about the challenge of SEO here in Brazil. The distpute is fierce for the term "katipsoi zunontee". http://www.renatoxavier.com/katipsoi-zunontee It is in Portuguese but you can use the translate.

Hi Ken,
You're welcome! I'm glad you like this post and that it is useful for you. I have not tested yet the text-to-speech fonction, but, I like this kind of acrticle and it contain a lot of interesting insights that we can use!
Cheers!

Finding Balance in the Age of Digital Overload

Finding Balance in the Age of Digital Overload | Design & Social Media | Scoop.it

When the Author Dean Whitney says: "You need a “system” you can trust" I think it is right. Today we have so many information so that we really need a system [note Martin Gysler]

It's a new year and a great time to talk about goals and balance. If you are like me, your work is always with you. You wake up and check your email on the computer and if you're not near the computer, the iPhone or Blackberry is always within reach. As digital information becomes more accessible so to does our ability to communicate. For every actionable email there seems to be 10 emails with useful information and 100 useless cc's and spam emails. Then there’s the rest of life: mental, spiritual and physical realities. Our real world relationships, our dreams and our health needs to be in balance with all this digital information. Without proper and directed focus, years can go by without making significant progress.

Your life goals don’t ask you for permission to use “push notifications”

S.U.D.S or “Seemingly Unimportant Decisions”. Everyday we need to make hundreds, even thousands of decisions. From what to wear, eat, what time to get up, exercise, which emails to reply to, what to read, and how to spend our time. The problem is that all the really important and beneficial tasks don't bug you if you don’t perform them....

How to Make Your Blog Stand Out in a Crowded Niche without Guest Posting

How to Make Your Blog Stand Out in a Crowded Niche without Guest Posting | Design & Social Media | Scoop.it

I’ve been a long time blogger, and believe me, I both know and appreciate the amazing power of a good guest post for bringing in intelligent and interested readers.

The thing is, since I often blog outside of the blogging/marketing/writing topics, I know (as you might) how hard it is to utilize guest posting for certain topics.

I had this exact problem with my electronic music blog Sophistefunk, which I entered into the Million Dollar Blog Contest ran here on ThinkTraffic.

My guest posting problem was really evident with this niche: music blogs almost never accept guest posts, because their “articles” are really just posts with media (audio & video), so there really is no need to have another author write for you.

Despite this, I wanted to accomplish what every blogger sets out to do: run a successful site based on my interests...

Starting A Blog in 2012? Avoid These 7 New Blogger Blunders

Starting A Blog in 2012? Avoid These 7 New Blogger Blunders | Design & Social Media | Scoop.it

Are you thinking of starting a blog in 2012, or making significant changes to your old one?

One thing that you should always be 100% clear on is your purpose of writing. Is it to start a personal blog where you don’t really care if you have a total readership of 9 or is it to have a blog that you want to monetize at some point.

If you belong to the former camp, then do as you please, and skip this post. If not, read on.

1. Making Your Blog All About You

Your blog is not an online journal. Although it might feel like the perfect place to let everything out, be careful about what you write. Especially, when you have aims of making money from it.

Many people get offended at this advice. They indignantly retort that they are writing for their friends and family only. If that is your intent – and it is perfectly fine – go ahead but keep this in mind it would be fairly hard if not impossible to reach wider audiences with a personal blog...

Creating Blog Posts 101

Creating Blog Posts 101 | Design & Social Media | Scoop.it

A comprehensive article on the subject, "how to create a Blog post." It gives you the procedures to be adopted to produce structured and professional articles... an amazing post! [note: Martin Gysler]

Content

This is the most important part of you blog post because it’s what your visitors have come for, so if you want them to enjoy it and come back, you need to make sure it’s up to a good standard. Having amazing knowledge is one thing, but if you can’t manage to organize it in a way that is easily understandable to your readers, then it’s completely wasted.

Planning

Before you even open up your website, you need to get yourself some good fashion pen and paper and start taking notes. Even if you don’t know the exact title of your post, you should atleast know what it’s going to be about, so put that in a circle in the middle of the page and work out from there with a spider diagram...

Content Scrapers – How to Find Out Who is Stealing Your Content & What to Do About It

Content Scrapers – How to Find Out Who is Stealing Your Content & What to Do About It | Design & Social Media | Scoop.it

If you have been blogging for a while, chances are you are familiar with content scrapers. Content scrapers are websites that steal your content for their own blogs without your permission. Some content scrapers will just copy the content off of your blog, but most use automated software that takes the content from your RSS feed and posts your content to their site like it is a new post.

In this post, we are going to look at some potential link building benefits to content scrapers, how to find out what sites are scraping your content, and what you can do if you want to either benefit from the linking standpoint or have them take it down.

Linking Benefits of Content Scrapers

Last week, I was happy to see that I was listed in ProBlogger’s 20 Bloggers to Watch in 2012. Within 24 hours, I received a notification in my WordPress dashboard that a page on my blog had been linked to in the post on ProBlogger’s site.
