Test and Assess – be a curator!

Test and Assess – be a curator! | Design Revoluton | Scoop.it
A key component to this process, which is tied directly into active assessment strategies, is synthesizing or making sense of the information gathered. Sense making can be writing a blog post using the links (like this post) or summarizing the key points in a presentation. Gathering and collecting specific content points is the beginning, and creating the theme is where an individual demonstrates their analysis and evaluation of the content included in a post or presentation shared. Kanter wrote, “Content curation is not about collecting links or being an information pack rat, it is more about putting them into a context with organization, annotation, and presentation.”

This article will help you understand how curating relates to both Bloom's taxonomy and the Engagement Pyramid proposed by Charlene Li and Jeremiah Owyang.

For those who must plan to standards, this article will give you great theoretical backing for teaching and using curation in your classroom.

Bronwyn Desjardins's curator insight, December 27, 2012 5:19 PM

I agree. Education used to be about finding the information. With potential access to everything now, the focus should be on making sense of it and finding connections, drawing correlations and making conclusions - to become thinkers.

I use UDUTU in my computer based training course which is part of UW-Stout's online Instructional Design Certificate program: http://www.uwstout.edu/soe/profdev/instructionaldesigncert.cfm

Students learn how to design and execute a SCORM compliant reusable learning object. UDUTU provides a free online platform that helps you create an RLO.  Rather than spend hundreds of dollars on a high end program like Captivate or Articulate, try UDUTU as you learn how to build training modules.

Ten Steps Toward Universal Design of Online Courses

Ten Steps Toward Universal Design of Online Courses | Design Revoluton | Scoop.it

Implementing the principles of universal design in online learning means anticipating the diversity of students that may enroll in your course and planning accordingly. These ten key elements will greatly enhance the accessibility and usability of your course for students with and without disabilities.

Step 1: Develop content first, then design.
Step 2: Provide simple, consistent navigation.
Step 3: Include an accommodation statement.
Step 4: Choose CMS tools carefully.
Step 5: Model and teach good discussion board etiquette.
Step 6: Use color with care.
Step 7: Provide accessible document formats.
Step 8: Choose fonts carefully.
Step 9: Convert PowerPoint™ to accessible HTML.
Step 10: If it's auditory make it visual; if it is visual make it auditory.

The 16 Most Compelling Infographics Of 2012

The 16 Most Compelling Infographics Of 2012 | Design Revoluton | Scoop.it

2012 might be the year which we reached 'peak infographic'.

You can’t have an issue or a piece of data without putting it into a picture so it’s easier for people to understand. While this has mostly resulted in a glut of ugly graphics that don’t actually do anything with data (and you’ll see some of these below), it’s still an incredibly simple way to get information to you fast. And this year, some of our most compelling content has appeared in the format.

These are some of our favorites.
