The Power Of Student-Made Videos - Easy Apps For Projects & Primary Sources

The Power Of Student-Made Videos - Easy Apps For Projects & Primary Sources | Design in Education | Scoop.it
The use of videos in learning is no longer exceptional. Whether via classroom viewing, flipped instruction, or self-directed YouTube searches, kids expect a multimedia accompaniment to their otherwise humdrum lectures and daily note-taking. Having students create their own videos upgrades the internalization of ideas to a much more nuanced level. Inviting learners to produce their own content is the difference between input and output, content and skills, decoding and encoding, passivity and activity.

Beth Dichter's curator insight, June 4, 2014 8:34 PM

Do you use iPads in your school? Do you work with Bloom's Taxonomy and/or SAMR? Are you interested in seeing how you might combine Bloom's and SAMR using specific apps? If so, click through to this post.

The post takes apps and organizes in three categories:

* Consumption - which includes Knowledge and Analysis (split into Activity and Gamification)

* Collaboration - which includes Application and Synthesis (split into Assessment and Cloud Storage)

* Creation - which includes Comprehension and Evaluate (split into Multimedia & Design and Multimedia Texts)

Then read on and see how you might take these same areas and apply them to SAMR (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification and Redefinition).

This is worth a look even if you do not have iPads. The ideas of placing work into the three Cs of Consumption, Collaboration and Creation may be applied to work that students do, with or without technology.

Innovation Design In Education - ASIDE: Visualizing The Future Of Apps In Education | Design in Education | Scoop.it

Even though iPads offer a lot of flexibility in learning, finding the right app can sometimes be a frustrating barrier to using them in the classroom. The Student-Centered Classroom - Liberate Learners To Flip Their Own Lessons

The Student-Centered Classroom - Liberate Learners To Flip Their Own Lessons | Design in Education | Scoop.it

The expanded availability of easy tech tools has empowered educators to rethink homework and daily instruction. Flipping the classroom with teacher-made videos allows students to self-direct their at-home learning. Many of these clips, however, still involve a one-day delivery of information, from teacher to student. Another approach is to allow children to make their own educational videos. They can enlighten their classmates with their creations, and they can teach themselves the material and the skills during the process of production.

Viz And Pic Collage: Infographic Apps For the 1:1 Classroom

Viz And Pic Collage: Infographic Apps For the 1:1 Classroom | Design in Education | Scoop.it

This year we started a 1:1 program, so we looked to incorporate apps that would aid our students in designing infographics on the iPad. Two that worked for their projects were Viz and Pic Collage. The kids used the free version of Viz. It helped to tame their tendency to over do it by limiting their selections to ten objects. For others, they liked using Pic Collage to create visualizations for their acronyms.
