Denon HEOS embraces CI with four zone Drive amplifier - Inside CI

Denon HEOS embraces CI with four zone Drive amplifier - Inside CI | Custom Integration | Scoop.it

Denon has expanded its HEOS line of multiroom audio components, unveiling a soundbar solution and a multiroom amplifier for the custom install industry at its annual dealer product showcase, held this year in Monte Carlo.

The new HEOS HomeCinema (pictured below) is a 2.1 soundbar and wireless subwoofer package, which will retail for £599. The soundbar is a slimline affair with two mid-range drivers and dual 20mm dome tweeters. Unlike main rival, the SONOS Playbar, it boasts an HDMI output (with ARC), plus optical and coaxial digital audio inputs, supported by Dolby Digital and DTS decoding. The subwoofer features dual 5¼-inch woofers. The enclosure functions as part of the HEOS ecosystem for multiroom audio, when not working as a standalone soundbar.  In addition to shelf and stand mounting, there are also keyholes for wall mounting; a wall mount template is included.

Now more than ever, customers care about where products come from, how they are sourced, and what the environmental impact is of their purchase decisions. Barco works hard to minimize the impact of its products. More than meeting the regulatory requirements in each country, we take voluntary steps to proactively comply with the most stringent rules and regulations, before they are enforced.

Best Practice: Top Tips for Delivering Great Outdoor Entertainment Systems | HiddenWires

Best Practice: Top Tips for Delivering Great Outdoor Entertainment Systems | HiddenWires | Custom Integration | Scoop.it

Ensure that you have a strong wireless signal
Customers’ mobile devices are the centre of their digital world. Used for streaming content and system control, it is essential that when providing an outdoor entertainment system that you plan for and install a very robust wireless network. As with all wireless networks, just having any old signal strength is not enough. You need to plan for low-power devices (phones and tablets) to have enough signal available to give them maximum data throughput wherever they are. Simply using a ‘high power’ access point is not enough as the access point may be able to shout loudly, but if the mobile device is only able to reply with a whisper then two way communications will not be reliable. Your solutions are:
1. Cable for the use of enough outdoor access points to give you adequate coverage
2. Consider using access points with high gain directional antennas to cover large outdoor areas

Recreating the glory days of the cinema experience - Inside CI

Recreating the glory days of the cinema experience - Inside CI | Custom Integration | Scoop.it

Here at Inside CI we like to hit the road and find out just what the custom install industry is up to. This time travels took us to City Home Cinemas, based in London where we met CI industry veteran Graham Goodbun and Peter Walker. Talking to the pair it was soon clear they had a passion for bringing cinema into the home, with a level of detail that reminds you of the good old days.

“In 1984 it became necessary for me to find a fresh challenge and I decided to look for something new,” Walker told us. “I remembered an old closed down cinema and decided to see what I could do with it, if anything. When I entered the building, I fell in love with the place and felt sad that it had closed, so I set about leasing the cinema - and the more I looked at it, the more determined I became!

3D audio set to boom as DTS:X takes on Dolby Atmos - Inside CI

3D audio set to boom as DTS:X takes on Dolby Atmos - Inside CI | Custom Integration | Scoop.it

DTS has formally announced DTS:X, a next-generation, object-based sound technology that “replicates a real-world sound environment” both in the cinema and at home. What makes the DTS proposition different from rivals Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D is that there’s no prescribed speaker configuration or even a specific number of audio channels.

“Until recently, sound in movie theaters and in our homes has been dictated by a standardised speaker layout,” says Jon Kirchner, chairman and CEO of DTS. “Through the use of object-based audio, DTS:X is able to scale immersive soundtrack presentations across a wide range of playback systems, from efficient to extravagant, while staying true to the content creator’s vision. This approach delivers the most authentic three-dimensional audio experience ever.”

For installers, this means they have the flexibility to place speakers according to individual space and design requirements. For consumers, DTS:X promises the precision of object-based surround sound, without the complication of retro-fitting additional ceiling or upfiring speakers. Metadata-based spatial mapping renders the ideal 3D sound image to whatever speaker layout exists, including up-firing Dolby enabled Atmos speakers.

Best Practice: The Dangers of Over-Automation | HiddenWires | Custom Integration | Scoop.it

Whenever I discuss the above quote, the first thing that comes into people’s minds is the concept of ‘smart’ home automation – your house has anticipated your needs, leaving you to get on with the task at hand. Unfortunately, today’s systems are simply not intelligent enough to take account of the myriad variables that dictate our mood, our health, the environment around us and how we interact with others. System programming relies largely on conditional logic; if this, then that. Though we can introduce other inputs such as time of day, temperature and occupancy, these are too limited in scope to truly predict our needs.
