Grand Palais | Une renaissance : L’art entre Flandre et Champagne 1150-1250 | design exhibitions | Scoop.it

Paris | 17.04.2013 - 15.07.2013

As in the world of fashion, Swedish fabrics encompass a multitude of styles from Modernism to Romanticism, from abstract graphics to naturalistic detailing. In line with Swedish design tradition, colours are bold and bright, often set against a stark background with accents of pitch black."

Sleaford, Lincolnshire | 28.01.2017 - 23.04.2017

"The Good, The Bad and The Beautiful celebrates innovation, poses ethical questions and considers the future of the manufacturing process. Works on display explore the innovative, political, social and environmental aspects of 3D printing. The show highlights that whilst the process is opening up new creative possibilities for makers, the technology also raises other complex questions – the role of designer and maker; authorship; our relationships with objects, customisation and mass production; conservation or changing history; environmental or a way of democratising medicine?"

Gent | 31.03.2017 - 07.05.2017

"Design museum Gent has a very rich collection, a large part of which is currently in the depot. These objects, often designed for a specific interior or a specific context, seem to wait patiently for a new destination or a new story in which they can play a significant role. The design studio ‘Practice based issues’ from the Master of Interior Architecture at KU Leuven (campus Sint-Lucas Gent), took this fascinating finding as a point of departure. 15 students investigated 15 collection pieces and examined possible scenarios for these items. Which new life stories can we imagine for these objects? For each collection piece, the students designed an interior of 25m². Their imagination opens up unexpected perspectives on known and lesser known objects"

This exhibition invites visitors into a multisensory, imaginative environment that responds to present-day issues that are affecting design practitioners through a survey of products, things, and solutions."

Gewerbemuseum | Object Lessons - The story of material education in eight chapters | design exhibitions | Scoop.it

Winterthur | 09.04.2017 - 01.10.2017

"This exhibition is divided into eight chapters which recount the story of learning with, about and through materials: in science, at school, in commerce, crafts and at home, in novels and films, in the archive and on the Internet. Its focal point is an “object lesson box”. This small box, which contains over a hundred materials, was developed as a teaching aid in the nineteenth century.
The exhibition shows that material literacy has always been relevant, why it was forgotten and what it may look like in the future."

Roma | 09.11.2016 - 17.04.2017

"On the occasion of the exhibition The Japanese House, , dedicated to tradition and innovation in the architecture of Japanese homes, the Archives Centre is hosting an investigation of the multiple and deep-rooted motivations that link the architect and designer Carlo Scarpa to Japan, to its architectural culture, its literature and its historical, cultural and constructional traditions. A complex system of relationships, suggestions and studies that have over time linked Carlo Scarpa, a lover and connoisseur of the country from 1969, and Japan itself which held the architect in great esteem, in particular for his published materials. As well looking at which projects and in which forms Japan is to be found in Scarpa’s work, light is also shed on the episodes and factors that gave rise to this interesting system of relationships: papers, the architect’s personal library, critical fortunes in Japan and travel photos."

Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe | Making a magazine. The Zeitmagazin | design exhibitions | Scoop.it
Hamburg | 17.03.2017 - 02.07.2017
"What constitutes a magazine that accompanies a national newspaper? What are its characteristics, how do its topics arise, and why do photographs play a very different role than they do in newspaper format? The exhibition shown at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg (MKG) beginning in March 2017 is concerned with questions such as these. How does such a magazine come to be, what are its constitutive elements, what varies from issue to issue, what is always changing? And how does it differ from magazines that are sold individually at newsstands? In short, the focus is on the concept and specific characteristics that make up a magazine, seen through the example of Zeitmagazin, a supplement of the German national weekly newspaper Die Zeit. The exhibition looks primarily at the use of images and illustrations. The magazine’s special features, from individual sections to prominent photo series, are laid out like a cross section and can be compared with each other. Over 200 individual pieces are on display, some printed in enlarged form."
