Frankfurt | 07.11.2012 - 31.08.2013

"What does fashion tell us about society? How do styles travel and mediate identity?

In an unprecedented dialogue between past and present worlds of fashion, “TRADING STYLE” presents over 500 historic objects, photographs and films from the Weltkulturen Museum’s collection together with new designs for clothing and accessories by four international fashion labels: Buki Akib(NG), A Kind of Guise (DE), CassettePlaya (UK) and P.A.M./Perks and Mini (AU). Working in residence at the museum’s lab during 2012, each team of designers investigated the ethnographic collections and created new prototype garments inspired by their selection."

Vibrant expressions of creativity, the pieces in this exhibition combine remarkable technical skill with exquisite artistry. Over 150 stunning historic and contemporary pieces are on display, including complete costume ensembles, sarapes, rebozos, textiles, embroidery, beadwork and more. Amsterdam | 22.11.2015 - 29.05.2016

"Berlage could be considered to be the most important designer in Dutch history. He not only designed the Beurs van Berlage, but also the many exceptional objects and pieces of furniture inside the building. His influence on the appearance of the Netherlands is immense. The building of the former stock exchange is generally seen as the starting point of modern Dutch architecture. Contemporary designers still take inspiration from his work. The exhibition testifies: Berlage’s DNA continues to affect, his design principles are very much alive in contemporary Dutch Design."

BEPARTLIVE | La botiga de l'Anson

BEPARTLIVE | La botiga de l'Anson | design exhibitions | Scoop.it

Waregem | 26.03.2016 - 01.05.2016

"La Botiga de l’Anson is a project by the Spanish artist Martí Anson (1967, Mataró (ES), lives and works in Barcelona). He developed it for the Species of Spaces exhibition at MACBA (Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona) in 2015. [...]

Martí Anson takes his inspiration from everyday things, from the banality that surrounds us and from the trivial. La Botiga (the shop) explores the boundaries between reality and fiction. The shop space is filled with furniture made to a design by Joaquim Anson, the artist’s father, who designed and made furniture for his family and friends in the 1960s. It was at that time that General Franco’s Spain was starting to open up to the outside world. Spain became a popular holiday destination, with a booming hotel industry and an expanding consumer society that was the consequence of increased prosperity. Design was only integrated into the fabric of society on a very minimal scale, however. Many products imitated modernity in their form, rather than being truly Modernist. This is how Joaquim Anson got the idea of designing chairs, benches and tables himself. (:)La Botiga de l’Anson(i) is an exploration of the banal space and ordinariness, a study of the boundary between social reality and art. By filling the shop with furniture, cushions, lamps and drawings, Martí Anson questions the space and makes it possible to interpret it."

FIT - Fashion Institute of Technology | Fairy Tale Fashion | design exhibitions | Scoop.it

New York | 15.01.2016 - 16.04.2016

"Fairy Tale Fashion is a unique and imaginative exhibition that examines fairy tales through the lens of high fashion. In versions of numerous fairy tales by authors such as Charles Perrault, the Brothers Grimm, and Hans Christian Andersen, it is evident that dress is often used to symbolize a character’s transformation, vanity, power, or privilege. The importance of Cinderella’s glass slippers is widely known, for example, yet these shoes represent only a fraction of the many references to clothing in fairy tales."

Schiltach | 18.06.2015 - 15.05.2016

"Decorative, colourful and often excessive – that's our impression of the 1970s. The bathrooms of that period were completely in keeping with the spirit of the time: colourful and with a passion for décor, the design experimented with new shapes and materials. The exhibition compares bathrooms from different continents and demonstrates the basic conditions and social, economic and political developments in Europe, Asia and South America which influenced bathroom design. The roots of globalisation, which we experience on a daily basis, can also be traced back to this era."

Galérie Poirel | Zones de confort | design exhibitions | Scoop.it
Nancy | 21.11.2015 - 18.04.2016
"The exhibition suggests different ways to experience "comfort", a concept that has become so omnipresent in design practice and theory that it has almost grown imperceptible. Where does this "state of convenience and well-being akin to pleasure to which all men naturally aspire" come from? What forms does it take? [...] Comfort Zones places mass-manufactured products, comfort produced in standardised forms, alongside works that upset the standard models. In doing so, the exhibition reflects two contemporary movements in design: the search for solutions and the formulation of critiques."
This exhibition is the product of a partnership between the city of Nancy, Galerie Poirel and the CNAP. It is the first in a series of three exhibitions that will offer different perspectives on the Cnap’s design collection.

RMIT Design Hub | 100 Chairs in 100 Days: Martino Gamper | design exhibitions | Scoop.it

Melbourne | 26.02.2016 - 09.04.2016

"Renowned for his cross-disciplinary and culturally responsive approach to design, London-based Martino Gamper came to major acclaim with 100 Chairs in 100 Days. In this project Gamper collected disused chairs from alleyways and friends’ homes and reassembled them — one per day — into poetic and often humorous forms.
Shown in Australia for the first time, 100 Chairs in 100 Days is an experiment in transforming limitations into possibilities. For RMIT Design Hub, Gamper will create a new version of the 100th chair, fabricated within a single day and only using found materials, structures and designs. The exhibition incorporates a workshop or ‘ideas exchange’ where Gamper will discuss his process-driven practice with local invited designers."
