In the 1970's Sherry was only 12 years old, the medical community discovered the disastrous result of fetal exposure to DES. This drug had been commonly prescribed to help maintain pregnancies. The strongest evidence for this link emerged decades ago. Researchers first suspected that hormone-mimicking chemicals may play a role in breast cancer when they discovered that women who took the anti-miscarriage drug diethylstilbestrol (DES) – a potent form of estrogen prescribed for pregnant women from 1938 until 1971 – had about a one-in-six lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. The risk is one in eight for all women. In addition, their daughters, who were exposed to DES in the womb, developed breast cancer at about two times the rate of unexposed women. Delete the scoop?

Cervical and vaginal cancers are higher risk in women exposed to DES in utero (dailyRx News) Regular cervical screenings are never a bad idea - especially for ladies born between 1947-1971, if their moms were given diethylstilbestrol to prevent miscarrying or premature birth.

It turns out ovarian cysts are very common in DES daughters; my sister and I, both DES daughters, have had them twice during our lifetimes (so far). 2012 was a rotten year for me healthwise. Cysts came back big time. Delete the scoop?
