A Splintered Mind - Douglas Cootey | Depression | Scoop.it
Sylvie Henry's insight:

Douglas Cooty's writing is honest and entertaining. While he may not always write about "profound" topics relating to his depression, I can imagine how someone struggling with depression would connect to his day to day struggles and triumphs.

Why Teens’ Lack of Sleep May Cause Depression

Why Teens’ Lack of Sleep May Cause Depression | Depression | Scoop.it
Lack of sleep contributes to depression in teenagers, two studies find. Lack of exercise and lots of time online don't help, either.
Sylvie Henry's insight:

Teenagers go to bed late and sleep in. This is not only a social, but also a biological phenomenon. I wonder if we could reduce depression rates if we were to move the time teens spent in high schools forward a few hours.

Depression’s Upside - NYTimes.com

Depression’s Upside - NYTimes.com | Depression | Scoop.it

On the other, suicide and depression often go hand-in-hand, so it really doesn't make a whole lot of evolutionary sense for depression to exist.
