New Art Portrays Inferior Alveolar Nerve Injury from Implant Surgery

New Art Portrays Inferior Alveolar Nerve Injury from Implant Surgery | Dental Implants | Scoop.it

A new color drawing, ostensibly prepared for use in a malpractice suit, clearly portrays nerve insult from incorrect drilling and implant placement procedures. Avoiding these conditions is the responsibility of the dentist and/or oral surgeon. The location of all nerve features in three dimensions is only possible with CBCT - cone beam computed tomography -- as detailed throughout this website.

A higher resolution version of the drawing is available for download at https://www.box.com/s/rksrucsmla2rp2faofiq

Murry Shohat's insight:

Dentists and implantologists might consider a blowup of this chart to show to patients, in the context of recommending a CBCT scan for treatment planning.

Dental Implants -- What is the Standard of Care? (Best Thinking - Medicine)

Dental Implants -- What is the Standard of Care? (Best Thinking - Medicine) | Dental Implants | Scoop.it

Once again, science and technology to the rescue!

Standard dental implants are now the preferred way to replace missing and damaged teeth, regain lost chewing function and rebuild confidence after a long period without teeth. For an increasing number of patients, implants are now recommended instead of dentures. For front teeth, implants offer a cosmetically attractive smile in what dentists call the aesthetic zone. For these reasons, implants have rapidly become a mainstream but expensive treatment. Is your dentist properly trained to offer them?

Murry Shohat's insight:

Just updated, this durable article continues to offer good guidance to patient and dentist alike.

Murry Shohat's comment, May 14, 7:45 PM
"Standard of care" is a legal term used to judge the actions of licensed practitioners against commonly-accepted norms.
