The Evolution of Dental Implants - U.S. News & World Report

The Evolution of Dental Implants - U.S. News & World Report | Dental Implants | Scoop.it

For well over a thousand years, civilizations have attempted to solve the problem of tooth loss by implanting some type of "foreign material" into the jawbone. Archaeologists have discovered fragments of seashells and carved stones embedded in the jaws of ancient Mayans that date back to 600 A.D. In fact, in some instances these early implants proved to be "fused" to the bone!

Murry Shohat's insight:

One of the better reviews of the current state of the dental implant market. Two bones to pick with dentist-author: no mention of the need for CBCT in treatment planning; and too optimistic view of "all-on-four" technology and its mini-implant underpinning.
