AerOs™ Sinus Dilation System

AerOs™ Sinus Dilation System | Dental Implant and Bone Regeneration | Scoop.it

SinuSys Corporation (Palo Alto, CA) has received the go-ahead in the EU to market its AerOs Sinus Dilation System, a device developed for opening up the sinus ostia to restore proper drainage and ventilation.

The company lauds the AerOs for its slow expansion, unlike balloon dilators that can be uncomfortable and may require general anesthesia. The tiny device is inserted by the physician and set to expand, while the patient plays a round of Angry Birds, and sixty minutes later it has fully expanded and ready for removal.

Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Bioceramics for Implants

Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Bioceramics for Implants | Dental Implant and Bone Regeneration | Scoop.it

DM-Bone is a ceramic constituted of two-phase of silicon (<1wt%) contained coralline 60% hydroxyapatite and 40% beta-tricalcium phosphate.

Small amounts of silicates stimulate the action of osteoblasts and, in consequence, the new bone formation. Moreover, silicates increase the mechanical strength, a very important factor in particular for porous ceramics, and also accelerate the bioactivitiy of apatite.

KAT Implants has launched the production of Really Wide Implants™.

KAT Implants has launched the production of Really Wide Implants™. | Dental Implant and Bone Regeneration | Scoop.it

The KAT Implant system is built around a single external locking taper platform which allows the same abutments to be used on implants ranging in diameter from 2.5 mm to 8.0 mm and in length from 6.0 mm to 14.0 mm.

The solid body design of KAT implants, locking taper connection, and the absence of a microgap between abutments and implants are just a few of the aspects that distinguish KAT Implants system from the competition.

OMEGA 3 BioAbsorbable Oil Coating Technology

OMEGA 3 BioAbsorbable Oil Coating Technology | Dental Implant and Bone Regeneration | Scoop.it

A novel coated mesh for soft tissue repair with a bioabsorbable Omega 3 fatty acid (O3FA) cross-linked gel. The semi-solid coating is carefully formulated to provide controlled incorporation and penetration of cellular remodeling as a soft tissue repair material. Animal studies have shown resorption of the coating occurring upon implantation and continuing over a 3 to 6 month period. The animal studies indicate that bio-resorption occurs with decreased inflammation as evidenced by decreased presence of mononuclear cells (morphologically characterized by macrophages and foreign body giant cells)

Periosteal-derived cells for bone bioengineering: a promising candidate

Periosteal-derived cells for bone bioengineering: a promising candidate | Dental Implant and Bone Regeneration | Scoop.it

Taken our results together, we can suggest that periosteal-derived cells present an interesting potential to differentiate in mature osteoblast able to promote mineralization in vitro by incorporating to ECM circulating calcium from extracellular compartment. From our point of view, this source of osteogenic cells can be explored by bioengineers in order to advance therapeutic protocols able to solve bone degenerative lesions.

Japan tooth patch could be end of decay

Japan tooth patch could be end of decay | Dental Implant and Bone Regeneration | Scoop.it

Scientists in Japan have created a microscopically thin film that can coat individual teeth to prevent decay or to make them appear whiter, the chief researcher said.

The "tooth patch" is a hard-wearing and ultra-flexible material made from hydroxyapatite, the main mineral in tooth enamel, that could also mean an end to sensitive teeth.
