Meadowbrook Residence: Phoenix, Arizona

Meadowbrook Residence: Phoenix, Arizona | Decor and Design | Scoop.it

Jay Atherton Architect’s Meadowbrook Residence was initially inspired by fluctuating seasons of light. Situated in Phoenix, Arizona abounded by an undemanding audience, the architectural formwork is an overt abstraction; yet consciously unspoiled and quiet. Despite the employment of natural materials and local stone, the building itself sits framed by its surroundings, as well as resting respectfully amongst it...

Via Lauren Moss
JMS1kiddz's insight:

the residence is built/ designed to accomodate the varying light that it recieves throughout the seasons. A really cool concept and interesting way to percieve architecture - Madi Chaput

Real Regal Living: 12 Palace Inspired Home Inspirations

Real Regal Living: 12 Palace Inspired Home Inspirations | Decor and Design | Scoop.it
Charles Jouffre – A little ‘Je ne sais quoi’ Let’s be real; when regal isn’t done right, it looks tacky.  How many times have we seen regal looking designs which give the impression that the owner is trying too hard.  Regal can’t be pulled off...

Via Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com
JMS1kiddz's insight:

We are not all royal by birth and chances are we won't all marry a prince or princesses anytime soon, however there are still ways of living like a royal without owning the palace. These 12 palace inspired homes show how decor can simply effect the way a space looks. At first glance one would expect one of these homes to be the humble abode of a esteemed duke or dutchess when these are the homes of ordinary common folk. None the less there are ways of living a royal life without having the actual title.

JMS1kiddz's insight:

Most people listen to music every single day and some people prefer their music to be enhanced by a good set of speakers. Furniture is not the only thing that can be made of wood these timbre speakers prove exactly that. Despite being a block of wood as some would see it, these speakers remain elegant and clean in design.

Taiwan Skyscraper's Facade Covered in Thousands of Wind Turbines

Taiwan Skyscraper's Facade Covered in Thousands of Wind Turbines | Decor and Design | Scoop.it

Beijing-based Decode Urbanism Office has designed a 1,150 foot (350m) skyscraper located in Taichung City, Taiwan, to house the city’s Department of Urban Development, commercial concerns, museums, retail areas and exhibitions spaces.

The building’s design was inspired by the plum blossom, the national flower of China and Taiwan. The building’s twisting and turning structure is intended to evoke the experience of plum blossoms bursting into bloom.

To do so, the facade has thousands of small diamond shaped wind turbines, which produce enough energy to power the building. These wind generators are set into the facade grid, oscillating as wind skirts the building.

Yet again another environmentally friendly design. This building has been designed to generate its own energy and power LED lighting throughout the building. This is done through the power of wind turbines which the building is completely surrounded by. It is becoming the newest trend in design to create buildings and structures that are helpful to the environment.

YOY – Works – CANVAS

YOY – Works – CANVAS | Decor and Design | Scoop.it
YOY [jˈɔɪ] is a Tokyo based design studio composed by Naoki Ono, a spatial designer, and Yuki Yamamoto, a product designer. Started in 2011, our design theme is to create a new story between space and objects.
JMS1kiddz's insight:

This is innovation station.

These canvases, adorned with minimalistic images of furniture, can be propped against walls and used as seats.

Naoki Ono, founder of YOY design studio, designed these two-dimensional, lightweight furniture using wood, aliminium and stretched elastic canvas. Although I can't imagine being terribly comfortable on such seats for extended periods of time, they are easily stored and clearly an awesome concept.

DAVID HANAWALT & WILLIAM CLOSE - The Symphonic House | Decor and Design | Scoop.it
THE AVANT/GARDE DIARIES: The Symphonic House. David Hanawalt and William Close combine music and architecture
JMS1kiddz's insight:

If you read nothing else on this entire scoopit account, please just watch this. It is absolutely mind blowing!

These men designed a house that is quite literally a musical instrument.

Using the accoustics of the environment, and spaces designed for sound, the architectural structure and materials make each room a container for vibrations that are amplified. Thus each room is essentially a chamber of sound.

This symphonic house is a real testament to the possibilities of design, architecture and avant garde ideas.

Modular Prototypes for Flexible and Efficient Prefab Structures

Modular Prototypes for Flexible and Efficient Prefab Structures | Decor and Design | Scoop.it

The prototypes designed for DST Company for the CONCRETA 2003 Exhibition, intend to provide a multiplicity of solutions regarding its purpose. The development of a modular typology that could respond to specific ends such as of temporary housing, environmental observatory, fire outpost, bar, Kiosk, “virtual square” or to a minimum element that could gather the necessary conditions to communicate through IT systems was a priority.

The plan was to produce a module that could be repeated and associated almost endlessly, being at the same time functionally mutable and capable of providing urban conditions through associative forms of its base element.

Via Lauren Moss
JMS1kiddz's insight:

The concept of Prefabs is no new idea, however these modern prototypes change the way one looks at prefabs. Prefabs are generally associated with being made out of some sort of iron material and are built for practicality rather than comfort. These prototypes are designed to manage energy and to work in favour of the land. Not only are they nice looking but they are also complimentary to the land.

The iT House brings together raw industrial aesthetics with the tactics of green design to forge a new home in the sunbaked wilds of California’s east.

The project is an exploration of the owners' architectural ideas and brings the precise and the cool together with the wild and untamed. Solar panels catch the sun's energy; wide expanses of open doors and windows provide cross-ventilation; and strategic overhangs shade against the desert's endless heat...
