1) Focus on Business Objectives

Don’t collect data because you can, collect data because it’s necessary. Identify the core problems that have to do with meeting business objectives.

Speak the right language to the right people as different stakeholders in business have different goals that they focus on.

If you’re focusing on impressions, clicks, CTRs, and CR, and the person you’re dealing with only cares about ROI, CPL, and CPA you’re going to have a hard time communicating your value.

Learn to translate your data into terms that’s tailored for your audience.

Early detection of Twitter trends explained

Early detection of Twitter trends explained | Decisions by Data | Scoop.it

A couple of weeks ago on Halloween night, I was out with some friends when my advisor sent me a message to check web.mit.edu, right now. It took me a few seconds of staring to realize that an article about my masters thesis work on a nonparametric approach to detecting trends on Twitter was on thehomepage of MIT. Over the next few days, it was picked up by Forbes, Wired, Mashable, Engadget, The Boston Herald and others, and my inbox and Twitter Connect tab were abuzz like never before.
